So here I am 7 in the morning at the rec center at the college waiting on my early morning class to start.

Just shooting random balls getting warmed up.

Some notes: The table is almost absolute sh*t. The rails are dead and you can clearly see how hard i'm having to hammer the ball to get some action off em'. Felt is just as dead if not worse.

I was running out of battery so i'll upload some better vids on monday.

So.. the technique, what's wrong? What else?

The only thing I see is your back hand could move back a little - it seems a little too far forward. Move it back 2". It'll feel weird at first but it will result in a more powerful stroke in the long-run.

Outside of that, you look good over the ball.

I agree, it does seem too far forward.

I'd try to eliminate some of the elbow movement if I were you. I don't mean the ever-controversial "elbow drop", but rather the pump-handle motion during your stroke. Certainly it can be made to work extremely well (Mika Immonen has a motion like yours), but it can also introduce inaccuracy.

looks solid. You do indeed have to pound those shots off the rail. It might give you a little trouble with speed control when you have to play on decent equipment later.

Why do college rec rooms always put red felt on their tables? Ugh. Anyway, I would focus on keeping your head still as much as you can. On your first shot of the vid, and whenever it seemed like you were really going for action on the cue ball, you kind of pop your head up a half second early. You look comfortable over the ball though, so keep doing what you're doing.

yeh that's what you get from watching SVB all the time I guess.

I know exactly what you mean. I agree completely that while I can get limitless power on some shots, my accuracy suffers with this method at long ranges.

Definately.

Well I know you can't tell much from the vid but I can feel my stroke is off.. and on top of it i'm not seeing the angles real well hence the moving the head up and realigning into the shot.

Looks good to me. Make a vid of some straight pool and post it.

lol straight pool on these tables... nah that's a bad idea on those things. Maybe when they re-felt them.

Maybe try lowering your head a little (so your chin comes closer to your cue when you're aiming)? Regardless, if you're tuning your mechanics, things aren't going to feel great right away. I'm re-tooling my stance and it took a few sessions before I felt comfortable with it. You'll come around, you look like you play well naturally so if I were you, I'd wouldn't stress too much about the little things. Just get comfortable over the ball and the rest will come.

You are a disgrace.

For one, you aren't ugly enough. You're fit as a fiddle and you call yourself a pool player?

Where's your pot belly?

Why aren't you throwing your cue on the table when you miss and looking up at the heaven's like your searchin' for a reason?

How come you don't jump up after you shoot, or pump your fist after every shot? Where's your white glove?

No good pool player should make balls on that ugly red table cloth. If you were good you would be whining about the table. It looks like a dinner table in Little Italy for cryin out loud.

Pool is a game that's not meant to be played the right way - so please give it up now before you get too good and can't give it up like me.

I agree completely. It is a rec room, so I'll make an exception for the beer/drink and smoking.

Though.. where are the ass weights?

On some of the shots it appears you have a very long bridge but your back swing is only about 1/2 of the distance. You might not need as long of a bridge as you are using if you're only going to pull the cue back 1/2 or 3/4 of the way. Just a thought. I also agree your grip hand seems a bit forward and you have alot of elbow movement up and down, does your stroke look the same if you're playing a slow speed shot?

IMO, you have a fine stroke and mechanics. It is doubt like you are having which can lead to needless retooling sessions, which takes time away from developing your concentration ands patterns.

If I were to critique anything, it would be your bridge. Try to use your whole hand it a more standard shape, but still, if you are not having any bridge induced problems, maybe it is best to ignore this input.

One more thing, banging balls in on an open table is fine, but playing games will give you more realistic patterns. That will develop your position play and ability to say been there done that as you see shots and position options.

Yeah, where's the whiskey and the smoke? Where's the money on the light - for that matter, where's the friggin' light? Did you at least get the nutz, kid? Get the nutz, make 'em post - and don't you fergit it.

7 a.m.? Are you friggin' kidding me - the only pool player up at 7 a.m. is in China and that's cause it's a day ahead because of the so-called and vastly overrated InternationaL Dateline.

Oh yeah, them's are buckets - and that's not a good thing.

Ps. You look really good - keep up the good work and don't change a damn thing except the buckets.

That's funny because as soon as I saw you hit a few balls I thought that maybe you imitated svb's stroke. I used to imitate tons of players strokes.

Why are you wasting your time in school? You should be spening time on the road, in smoke filled bars. (tongue firmly in cheek)

Seriously, wanna trade strokes?

+1 Of course the same could be said about me.

Yeh i've noticed that as well from watching the vid over. My hand is to far up on the stick on some of the shots.

The rest of it is just a product of using that long flowing type of stroke. I'll get a vid up of me shooting some slow long shots.

looks like the pockets are a little big. mostly because you don't look like you're focusing real hard

lol oh how the eyes can decieve.. i'll take shimmed pockets over these any day..

I think it's 2 or 3 of the pockets.. the inside edges are caving in a little from people hammering shots in there ( i'm assuming ). So if I hit a ball in the pocket and hit the edge sticking out the ball will bounce off the table or back a few inches or if hit light enough, just stop.

Nah no bridge problems at all.. and yeh i'm going to see if I can get a vid up of some of us in there playing around later in the day. Obvious problem with that is that A. they mostly play 8 ball B. They're pretty bad besides a select few C. The table conditions combined with 8 ball and clusterphobia can make longgg lame games I doubt you'll be willing to sit and watch.

This is a 8 x 4 table btw.

I'm sorry the table felt isn't heated either on top of all that :sorry:

Tell Reyes' he's got the 7 on these tables btw..

Yeh I mean the first time I saw him shoot I thought his mechanics must be off because it honestly looked like crap the way his stick bobbed up and down instead of straight back and forth.

But it wore on me after a while and I started trying it out. Limitless power but accuracy indeed suffers on long top english shots.

lol I do a little of that to but only locally. No ones willing to bet anything. Hell I was up at a bar about 3 weeks ago and the place was packed with 3 tables and people waiting to play. Me and a guy that I would barely rate a D player couldn't get anyone to even put ONE dollar on it.
