CALLING ALL CUE DETECTIVES… ID NEEDED!!!

A lot of you guys have way more hands-on experience with the older Joss (East and West) cues than I do. I'm more familiar with both shops' works from the 90's on. But have you guys ever seen work this rough from either of them? And I'm not talking about the finish. Rough and off center inlays are the things that stick out to me the most.

Yeah, it's not a JossWest. And I have my doubts on some pictures above as well.

best cue tip tool

I was pushing too hard when I cut into the ferrule but even when applying little pressure I could see whitening of the ferrule in spots where tip and ferrule meet, that can only be caused by the blade grazing the ferrule.Think about it, how can the tool perfectly differentiate between ferrule and tip..?All these tools are based on a pencil sharpener principle.

It always works best if you have a vice and can towel wrap your shaft so you can smooth the contour of the tip.
Thank goodness I have a Master PBIA Instructor that’s my best friend. He pretty much maintains my cue tips &
will replace my tips as needed. He does a fantastic job of installing my tips so mushrooming is only very slight.
How does the installing affect the mushrooming (except for maybe burnishing the sides, which is a standard procedure)..?Wouldn't the material of the tip be the main factor..?

What would You do?

When it become obvious he is lining up on the wrong ball and before he goes down.

Why ?? Because some people have honor inherent in their character.
Granted this is billiards but what about the bettors? There are also considerations like um ok, suppose the wrong way is a dead 3 and the right way leaves no option but a horrendous safety for your case shot. Allow the foul - and beg forgiveness from God, or stand on your character and wait to get wacked. (???)

What would You do?

No, I completely stopped trying to be helpful to my opponents in leagues.

In the past, every time I thought I was being helpful and told my opponent they were about to hit the wrong ball etc, it just made them embarrassed or mad I would say anything to them.

It's a lot easier to never say anything unless asked. If they shoot the wrong ball then ask why I didn't stop them, I simply say "I wasn't sure what your intentions were, and it sure isn't my responsibility to find out".

This cue could possibly be Early Verl Horn cue...
He made knock-off's of Bushka, Szam,
Pretty sure Verl bought pre-made points from the Prather shop-
which , earlier style forearms tended be thinner-JW has wider points above the wrap
Maybe send your pics to Jeff at Prather cues"
I don't think it's good enough to be a Verl Horn. His workmanship was very good.

If the lag is a skill shot, there's a better way

I get it, but if both players are warming up on the same table, somebody has to go first. I always liked to have a practice lag especially fresh in my mind before the official start, and if I hit one before my opponent gets down to shoot, it likely wouldn’t count, according to the rules. Might be considered touching on ‘unsportsmanlike-like conduct’ though (?). Thus my inquiry.

Well, broadly speaking, if you’re in an event where you’re going to lag… it is not a thing.

Put another way: no one cares.
