Grady's in Lexington, SC

I’m in Columbia now visiting our son. I leave an extra cue here just for the opportunity to go play a bit. Tried to rent a car but because of USC graduation none were to be had. Uber to Grady’s today.
I was wondering why the rental car lot was so empty!! I fly out tomorrow morning at 5:00 otherwise I'd try to meet up for some practice.

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

Life can be funny. I got out of the military because I wanted to be home for my family. Ended up traveling 50% in IT for work, then closer to 75%. Great for my game, horrible for family and my intentions. I got an IT director position and was able to stay home, then the Mezz tour started but because of my job, I wasn't able to practice like I did when traveling before and it affected my game. Then health problems etc...Can't complain about my life but in retrospect sometimes it would be better just to do what you love rather than fighting it.
true- you should do what you love, but life is complicated- you can have multiple passions- hobbies, jobs, relationships. Difficult to get them all to align at the same time.

8 ball allergy.

The last couple of weeks, I seem to have fallen into a pattern. Putting together decent patterns, and then going "mind-blind" on the 8 ball. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different on the 8, than I am on any other shot during the rack. Pre-shot routine seems fine, I don't feel like I'm rushing, breathing feels the same, etc...I'm just missing. Do any of you Mosconis out there go through this? What do you do to "flip the switch?" At this point, I'm considering witchcraft!
🤬😭😂
Always try and have two balls your playing shape to before the 8. Meaning if you come long on one shot or short on the other shot, your able to get in line with the other ball making that ball either a stop shot or an easy ball to make for shape.
Also make sure when your ''down and done'' you Only look at the 8 ball last.

Recent purchase

I recently purchased a older cue and case . Not sure what I have. Could you check these pictures out and share your thoughts. This is a suede case, popular in the 60-70 era, again I'm not sure. It has some markings similar to a Balabushka. The leather wrap for instance that he put on per customer request and some other markings on butt and shaft. I did not buy this for collectors item, just wanted to start back playing again. I had sold my Meccui that I played with for thirty years, but had some of sons friends that wanted me teach them to play, so I bought this cue, I'm 79 to old to invest in expensive cues, as we say down south, just piddling. Thanks in advance for your time.
I would like to thank everyone for your in put, no we I will just enjoy shooting with it, it is balanced and really feels good in my hands. Thanks again,
👍 to everyone

Templates Work The Best For Racking But I Hate Them.

I dunno know how most folks feel but I think templates produce the tightest racking of pool balls for a full rack (15 balls) or 9 & 10 ball. Nonetheless, these racks just don’t hold up over usage and I carry 4-5 of different versions and none of them seem to last over time.

For the past couple Xmas holidays, I have given a couple of dear friends Delta Elite racks and included leather inserts since they have pool tables. When I play on their tables, I enjoy racking pool balls that I’ve done all my life before plastic templates came along, even the sound.

So I decided to get a Delta Elite rack for myself. I’ll store it at the pool hall under the counter. I just bought a new one on eBay and I’m going to start racking balls from now on. The pool balls, unless the table is off, form a tight rack using the Delta pool racks and all the balls touch.

I think I’ll skip adding the inserts on my rack like I included when I gave my friends their Delta Elite racks. I actually like the sound of racking pool balls instead of individually placing the balls on a flat piece of plastic that eventually starts loses shape. I’m returning to the old days.

I paid slightly over $100 for a new Delta Elite. I’d have preferred a blue or black version but since it was from a private seller, there was no color choice so mine is red. I know templates are popular nowadays but a tight rack is still a tight rack regardless of what method you may use. I wonder if plastic templates will still be popular a decade from now?
I have had my Delta Elite for at least 15 years, I love it!!
