Playing Pool after 50?

I’m a Yankee Doodle baby and turn 80 coinciding with the 250th celebration on July 4th.

I was playing pool at Ames with my step-dad a week after we saw The Hustler. Imagine, a
pool hall in Times Square where the New Year’s Ball drops. My mom worked a couple blocks
away at The New York Times. I joined the printers union thru my mom and worked there as
a typesetter and eventually a proof reader while I attended SJU. So Ames was on my stop
going home since newspaper galley work is in the late evenings and early mornings back then.
After work, if it wasn’t too late, I’d often walk over to Ames, play pool and catch the train home.

Matchroom ranking events schedule, 2026

I think the Saudis will want to show that tourism is back open, so they will be keen to host the event.
I'm rooting for the Saudis here, too, but wouldn't it be nice if some of them showed up to the WPC. It's awfully hard to take an event seriously when it is , so often, played in front of an empty arena.

Just watched the Zielinski/Seoa vs Bergman/Fu mixed doubles match, and they played in front of a full arena consisting of very enthusiastic fans. That's what we ought to get at the WPC but, alas, we do not.

Then again, we got a very enthusiastic crowd at the WNT Florida Open last summer, so Matchroom knows how to generate a great buzz at its events.
