Turning Stone

Been that way for at least five years now, if not longer. It is the same comments every time. It is a regional tour championship with a couple of pros added in. There is always the question of if many can even get in given how far in advance the event supposedly fills up. Then you got the number of pros who say they don't like how the tournament is run nor the rule set. Then you will get the same comments on here from the same guys in response who will go how the great Zug is old school and can do WTF he wants. And back and forth, and on and on.

sums it up pretty well.

Tournament fees are out of control

A dinner at Delmonico's these days can easily hit 500bux/person. If you go for Wagyu beef even crazier. I'd pay 50bux just for directions to leave NYC.
Everything thing is expensive in NYC. I've never taken any lessons from the guy or watched him give one but if he has consistent clientele...gotta believe people are getting a good value for them.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

Same here. I like the fact that I can pick up any of the 12.9 Revos I have for different joints and it will play the same as the others do. I do shoot with wood once in a while, but that's usually for a joint I don't yet have a CF shaft for (3/8x11 for example).

I do wish other production companies besides Meucci would do custom joint collars though. One of the makers local to me has started doing double rings at the joint to give it the appearance of rings on a CF shaft and I guess that works out pretty well as an alternative.
A guy on my team stopped by the other night without his cue, He has a Lucasi he's played with for at least 20 years that he put a cheaper CF shaft on, he has been really happy with it, I let him use a Becue Natural Born Naked cue that I have, one of the first things he said to me was this cue has a lot more power than mine, I told him the cue doesn't have more power it only transmits the power you use more efficiently, he was really surprised by what a difference a full CF cue makes, slapping a CF shaft on your cue will help but it's nothing like a full CF cue, especially Becue.

Turning Stone

I just scanned the field and there were about a dozen players whose name i knew. Lot of local/JossTour guys which is cool but this event has lost a lot of its former luster. The schedule timing and location has lot to do with it. Verona NY in the middle of winter is not a vacation spot. Its basically a regional event with a few 'real' pros in it. That being said i wish Al would schedule better players for the stream. I'm sure he's aiming at the tour regular folks and that's cool but some of the matches are pretty lame. Its free i get it.
I could be wrong, but I don't think Al picks the stream matches. I think Zuglan does.
