Maikke wins two of three over Stemen to claim Rack Race #9 title in Aiken, SC

We’re about midway through the fourth season of the Rack Race series of tournaments, (currently looking ahead to #10 of 18 scheduled events, organized and run by Michael Newsome at his Rack & Grill locations in Georgia and South Carolina. While the entrant numbers can wax and wane depending on (apparently) the way the wind is blowing on any given weekend, the series itself perseveres. Not an insignificant accomplishment, given the number of venues from the Atlantic to the Pacific, which have made varyingly successful attempts to run pool tournaments. That was a 2% increase per year with increasingly stiff competition. He practices a lot.

The hotseat waiting is a larger problem if the TD plays the winners' side straight through hoping to get ahead. It just makes the hotseat player sit for four or five matches. Some tournaments spread out the winners' side matches.

I stopped going to my local friday night for that reason. It would end at 3am WITH a chop. I'd rather just go hang out and shoot the shit and play a few cheap action sets.
