I need breaking technique in 8-ball as I get older.

Second ball break is good for making balls
But a fine touch to not go off table is needed
Again, lots and lots of practice on the accuracy of the hit
With much less speed needed

I also love the second ball break, because if you don't make a ball in, there's a great chance your opponent will be coming to take a shot on a pretty crappy leave / table.

Second ball break consistently leaves problem balls, groups, and the cueball down in that mess. So if you're gonna hand it over after the break, might as well make sure it's a piss-poor situation for him.

PPG's Deltron DC-2000

Has anyone used PPG's Deltron DC-2000? PPG says the only product they recommend for wood is DAU75. That is slow drying and cannot be wet sanded and polished like an automotive clear. Perhaps it is ok to use the DC-2000 if the wood is selaed first with epoxy or perhaps PPG does not recommend DC-2000 for wood in general and has not considered that finishing a cue is very different than finishing something like a tabletop which can move quite a lot compared to a cue.

DC-2000 would be very conveneint to use as it dries very fast. You can sand and polish it after letting it cure for 30 minutes. I have seen DC-2000 used on a shotgun stock and it looked great. However, I don't know what it will look like in 20 years.
30 minutes ? No heating involved?
Any of these auto clears can be sanded and polished in a hurry if you use heat lamps.
I seal with 2 coats of epoxy and spray two separate coats of clear. I polish the final clear a week after spraying. What's the hurry?
I wish I can seal coat with a good UV but those lamps scare me

2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Duya Legends Golden Nine Classic Jinan Station

Ko Ping Chung eliminated at 49-64th place
Ko Pin Yi eliminated at 17-32nd place
Wu Jiaqing eliminated 5-8th – He lost to the overall tournament winner and was leading going into the final 2 racks but ended up losing to the overall winner. Nice to see that he’s still playing at a very high level.

I couldn’t find the payouts beyond the top 4.
1st - $280K
2nd - $113K
3rd - $42k
4th - $21k

Total prize pool was about $723K with $456K going to the top 4 leaving $267K for the rest of people that placed within the top 128. Unless both Ko brothers were guaranteed a spot on the Reyes cup, they collectively probably didn’t make much less than one being on a winning Reyes Cup team. But they gave themselves the chance to make 10x the payout in China plus giving their sponsors and products a much larger audience. They pretty much made the logical choice even if they didn’t win a very top prize.

Should the Reyes Cup Teams Change?

Two, the economies of the poorer Asian countries aren't as robust as most Western countries. Therefore, lots of young people do not have a lot of things to do, so they hang out in the poolrooms. The same way a lot of us did many years ago in the USA.
You make "living through a depression" sound beneficial.
It takes hours and hours and hours of practice
per day for years
to become and remain a top pool player. Western players have way more things on their minds than pool because they usually have another way of making money besides pool. That isn't necessarily the case in the Philippines.

I don't foresee the USA ever being a major force in the pool world anymore, except for a handful of players like SVB, who are committed to put the work in.
Somebody at the top of our *.gov may have just engineered our next large and long depression.

maybe pool has a chance...

2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Come on, are you trying to insinuate that by moving to Buckinghamshire they operated at a loss and just for the benefit of TV viewing fans? I would believe they make more money from TV than in person attendance. "Willingness to step up to the plate" 😆
What I'm saying is they have shown great adaptability when confronted with stressful situations and I see it as a sign of superior management. It's your every right to disagree.

Should the Reyes Cup Teams Change?

My proposal would be-

Team Philippines - Matchroom chooses a captain and they can field a team of whatever pinoys they'd like.

Team ROW - Team is chosen by Matchroom points only - pure meritocracy. Top 5 are automatically in and if someone opts out it moves down to #6, 7, etc. I'd recommend using the last 2 or 3 years Matchroom points vs. a single year and making the cutoff 2-3 months prior to the event so there's so we actually know who is playing in the event.

This format probably lends team Philippines to having a slight disadvantage on paper, but a distinct advantage in chemistry, communication, cajones etc.

Gorst, Filler, Yapp, Kaci, and SVB (I'm not sure what the actual team would be, but something like this)

vs.

Chua, Biado, Aranas, Raga, and Manas

This would be a very fun match-up - pinoys underdogs on paper, but not sure I'd count them out

Should the Reyes Cup Teams Change?

With plenty of chat on the boards about the recent edition of the Reyes Cup, what are people's thoughts on the next edition (and moving forwards), what would be most appealing to the fans?

This country/continent vs country/continent will run its course soon because of the uneven competition.
The way forward is Club Pool League comprising clubs that have combination of players all over the world. It will have a bidding system for clubs to bid for players like the highly successful IPL. It can be played over few months during the off season when there are no events in WNT
or PBS/WPA tours.
Ok sounds like BB but MR or Predator should be able to do better league with their bigger resources
I went for Team Philippines vs Team Rest of Asia. Still, I can do without all of these options unless the most accomplished players are going to be featured. This match ....

Ko Ping Chung , Ko Pin Yi, Aloysius Yapp, Wu Kun Lin and Naoyuki Oi

vs

Johan Chua, Carlo Biado, Bernie Regalario, Jeff Roda, Lee Van Corteza

... would certainly hold my attention. Further, having a Team Philippines would make the name Reyes Cup more appropriate.

... but give me players that are not in form and I'm not interested.

I'll take Raga over Bernie or Roda. Hasn't been playing as much as top Filipinos in WNT or PBS but he will drill Bernie or Roda
