After a hectic couple of weeks I wanted to post up some pics and thank you's to all the people who made Super Billiard Expo 2009 an awesome trip.
Dave "SpiderWebbCom" made the whole thing possible and I can't thank him enough for helping get the TAR booth to become a reality. Dave is the nuts (even if he confuses the hell out of me with all that center to edge voodoo)
Dave also brought some some buddies with him, Donny and Mike who were a huge help running the booth and a blast to hang out with. I hope we can do it again next year.
Thanks to Royce and Jessica from OB Cues for sponsoring our booth. Sorry about the lack of a stream but as you know it was a different kind of situation we will make it up to you. These two worked HARD all weekend. Thanks again guys.
Congrats to OB Cues sponsored player John Schmidt on his victory in the pro event and thanks for the dinner after. Very cool to see you continue the run you started at the Derby.
The trip was a success for TAR thanks to all the cool customers old and new who picked up shirts and DVD's. The TAR Nation is strong and growing. World domination is not out of the question. (Insert maniacal laughter here)
Two more people who made the trip for me were IT Guy and IT Gal of the JimboArmy forum. They offered to open the booth for me Saturday and Sunday at 11 so I could participate in the debauchery of the JimboParty Cave. I made it to the booth in time and they were there both days and stuck around for almost the whole show helping to sell merchandise or anything else that they could do. Awesome people. One other thing about how cool these two are. I had never met them before VF other than on a forum or in chat. Awesome people.
The SBE staff all did a fantastic job working long hours and dealing with all of the hings that come up in an event this size. Hats off to them.
Some random memories from the trip:
-JerseyJer siad the funniest thing all week when 1PRoscoe was barking at Aaron "The Anvil" from Jacksonville in the TAR booth one night. Roscoe was being his charming self only with the added kick of a day's worth of drinking:
Jersey Jer: "Roscoe....you are the only guy on earth who is a bigger ***** in person than on the internet."
As I started rolling around laughing Roscoe seemed to think about the statement and then smiled in agreement. Priceless.
-I was fortunate enough to go out to dinner with Fred Agnir, Jimbo, Dennis Searing, Murray Tucker, John Showman, The Pavlos and a bunch of other cue enthusiasts. A very interesting and entertaining evening.
- Spent a couple hours talking cues and cue making with John Showman. One of these days I am going to get that guy on tape. His outlook on the craft and business of cue making is enlightening and entertaining as hell.
-Had another great dinner with BrooklynJay, Pool Monkey and the whole crew from www.BilliardLifeUSA.com . I thought Jay and I had Monkey and Amy Chen talked into some Creme Brule wrestling but they aired us. Damn it.
-Another great line from the weekend came from Aaron "The Anvil" from Jacksonville. He was laying down some awesome lines while hustling the whole Jimbo Army crew out of twenties. LOL One of them came up when he had a jump shot. He stops.....looks up at his opponent....and says....
"Hold on a minute. I have to go get my cape"
Then turns dramatically and sprints off into the pit, returns with a jump cue and promptly spears in the jump shot and runs out to collect his cheddar.
- Scooter was in full effect in the action pit. After getting the 6 out and the breaks from Shane and losing he was trying to play the same game again and Shane wasn't interested. In his own Scooter way he tried to convince Shane by saying:
"You know what its like playing you? You don't make a ball on the break...you lose. You miss...you lose. You push out....you lose. You play safe....you lose. Here is a little tip Shane..YOU ARE THE BEST PLAYER IN THE U.S. and you won't play me a game that you have already won at? YOU ARE A NIT!!!!!"
Best part of the trip as always was hanging out with friends old and new. We have a plan for next year that we are going to pitch to Allen that will be very cool if it happens.
Here are some pics from the weekend:
The TAR Booth. (L to R) Darren Appleton, Arron "The Anvil", IT Gal, Jersey Jer, and IT guy.
If you see this look on Amy Chen's face....YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOSE!!!
Fred "Cornerman" Agnir rocking one of the coolest TShirts at the Expo
IT Gal working the TAR booth. Probably laughing at 1PRoscoe when this was taken. (I spent most of my time laughing at Roscoe whether he was around or not)
Pool Monkey: The worlds greatest SL3 hustla at the Billiard Life booth. I am stealing her from them next year. True story.
Caroline Pao. One of the owners of BilliardLife USA and Mezz USA. Also one of the nicest people on the planet.
IT Gal snapped this pic of me in the TAR booth. What makes it hilarious is my man PBat51 in the background expressing the true spirit of the TAR Nation.
Aaron "The Anvil" and me showing Darren that we grow em bigger on this side of the pond.
