I have several people that owe me money for several years now and want to see if anyone know the best way to GET PAID?. I know what you are thinking, " You should post". But you know as well as I do, we as players gamble with the almost the same individuals, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but we always pay when finished. With stangers we always post.
Like this scenerio, have played this individual plenty of times, but this time, I beat him out of 800, he pays me 400 and tell me he will get me the rest the following day. Well guess what, years later, he still owes.
Any Suggestions?

Suggest that he gives you something he values and is worth $400 to you and you will hang on to it for a set amount of time. If he doesn't pay in that set time then you keep what he gave you. A year is plenty of time to pay off $400 even if it is $25 a week or something like that. Right now he is not worried about paying you because he isn't out anything.

confront him, hold out your left hand and ask nicely for the money he owes you ............. while resting your right hand on the 44 in your waist band:cool:

hmmmm

next time you see him playing take his pool cues and case and tell him when he comes up with the $$$$ he will get them back, youll be surprised how fast the money he owes you becomes a priority. Ive seen it work here a few times in the last month or so.

I've seen that happen too. It worked suprisingly well.

no idea is risk free

None of my ideas are risk free plus you have the issue that apparently you haven't pushed to collect the debt in a several years time so it is going to be very hard to get him to take you seriously.

The best idea is simply to insist on collateral that is worth substantially more than $400. I have found holding weak collateral to make it even harder to collect sometimes.

I have sold pool cues for a tenth of their value when people didn't redeem them the next night as promised. Piss them off? You bet! It made my point though. I have often sold them for the bet when they were worth far more too, immediately after winning when they bet their cue against my money.

To finish with a chuckle, I was chasing a rare item. I had chased it high and low for months. When I finally found one it was in as new shape mechanically, a minor miracle since it was over fifty years old. It belonged to a man that had owed me $60 for several years and was worth a minimum of several hundred. His brother-in-law was the one that showed it to me. I took it and told him to tell Carl I was calling it an even trade for the bad debt! I never heard another word from Carl about it although rumor had it he was foaming at the mouth when he first found out what I did. :D :D :D

Just ask them for it. They depend on you not asking or being too embarrassed to ask. Don't be harsh or threatening just ask for the money they owe you and see what happens. You have to be nice because they use you being an a$$ hole as an added excuse to not pay. I.E. "Screw you, I was going to give it to you but not now". I will tell you though, the longer they don't pay the less likely they will want to. They also know now at this point you won't ask. They may be shocked when you do.

I owned a couple of pool rooms and when I sold the last one I had like $8000.00 in outstanding I.O.U.'s. These were loans over the years and most I just forgot about. When we were doing some cleaning up My wife said, "What about these"? I said you can have what ever you can collect. She collect like $4000.00 in a couple of months. She just went there and knocked on their doors.

Those no longer around she tracked down if she could. One guy a, world champion player, she went right up to him as he was collecting prize money for a tournament he had just won. He owed me $1400.00. She collected. I had paid his back house payments so he would not be foreclosed on and he and his wife could have time to sell the house. After they sold it he skipped town not paying me a dime after me saving his house and him making an nice profit on it once it was sold. I would love to tell you his name because he is such a piece of dirt. He gets mentioned on here all the time with much undue respect. People who know him know what a piece of garbage he really is. Either way, good luck getting your money.

Be straightforward, advise him you need the money right away. If he stalls, do not let him go without setting specific payment arrangements that will be no more than a month. I have someone that owes me thousands (non-pool related), and they were making payments nicely up until a few months ago. I'm trying to be understanding, but I guarantee you I feel your pain.

If this doesn't work, please PM me his name. Since I'm in Big D as well, it's always nice to know whom to avoid.

Thanks,

Jason

All jokes aside, now-a-days with all these laws, to collect money without some form of written contract is pretty hard. You almost have to beg for your money, like it is not rightfully yours. My suggestions is to take his cue and case, and if he makes a fuss about it, either he is going to fight you for his cue and you get to kick the gears out of his rear end or he will pay up fast. Don't take a cue that isn't worth much, wait until he plays with his nice cue but he could also call the cops and say that you stole the cue and case from him. My other suggestions I dare not post, because I know how many on here doesn't agree with violence or said illegal activities though it seem right in everyway other than in the eyes of the law. Good luck.

P.S. A can of Mace and the quote in Kill Bill Vol.2 (I'll burn 'em out of your F'in head. Then you'll be blind, burnin', and buried alive. So what's it gonna be, b****?) AS you can see, I have not stated what actions you should take with the can of mace, so whatever you plan on doing is all up to your own free will and I take no legal responsibilities. :D

Happy shooting! :)

I think it's time for you to consider a settlement. Next time you think he might me holding tell him that you are in need of some cash and ask for what he owes, if he balks then try to make a settlement for some of it and let the rest slide.

It's possible he has had the cash before but was reluctant to give it up. Many would not pay unless they are constantly badgered for it.

If he pays some of it and you forgive the rest, it's possible that you may get more action with him next time he has money. Until this happens he will most likely act like he doesn't have it and you get nothing.

This way you may get some of whats owed and next time he's pumped he might go off again. But next time make sure to post.

If it has been a very long period of time, your best chance is probably to offer a deal. Tell him you will take 100 now and call the rest off. Hate to say it, but this is most likely your only chance at recouping some of the dough at this point, since you said it has been years already.

This reminds me of 2 stories.

A friend of mine loaned another team mate some money. After a few months he asked the guy for it. The guy looked at him and said really serious " If I knew that you wanted me to pay you back I would have never asked you to loan me the money."

Another time a bunch of us were walking back into work from lunch. I was working in a auto factory. We seen a group from the plant and one was sticking a gun to a coworkers head. We kept on walking and didn't want to get involved. Later we asked him about it and he said that the guy owed him some money. We laughed and said it looked the other way around. He said that he asked the guy about getting paid and the guy got mad and pulled the gun and said that he was tired of being asked for it and will pay when he is ready.

Chances are if someone owes you money you will never get paid.

Pretty good observations, imo. My general rule is that I would rather give money to a friend than lend it to them. Just never works out well. Unfortunately, ANYBODY that regularly gambles, ESPECIALLY with good acquaintances and friends, has run into this before. The only thing that will put an end to this is when the sun explodes(and that is providing we haven't left this solar system, lol).

Thanks for everyone's advice. I am calling the guy this weekend and going to ask him for my money. First attempt, If that doesn't work, I will ask him if there is a buy out amout he is willing to give me, maybe 75cents or 60 cents to the dollar. Don't know what I will do if this doesn't work. Don't really want to badger the guy becuase he has money, but if nothing works, I will expose him on this site so everyone knows about him.

What really drives me made is, when I go to the pool hall, hearing stories,
oh I beat so and so out of 600 last night:angry:. Or, yeah he was here last week and was playing 200 sets..

Your plan sounds like a good one buddy. You should post his name so us DFW'ers know who to avoid. :D
