Glen...I like your list, but why wouldn't you put a GC 1 over a GC 3 (given the same condition)? I've always felt like the GC 3's were the worst of the Gold Crowns (but you certainly know more about tables than I do, so I'm curious).

nothing else comes close... Gabriels are great, but there just isn't that many of them.

GC1's didn't have adjustable leg levelers, had nut plates screwed to the bottom side of the rails held in with wood screws, which meant that no matter how tight you tightened the rails, all you were doing was tightening the nut plate to the slates as the wood screws would pull loose. Side skirts were a pain in the ass to assemble, and the slates wasn't real slate, so if you were trying to correct the slate for swayback, the Brunstone would crack before you could level it. Pocket castings were and still are hard to mount close to flush, even today, unless you shim them to fit first.

The design of the GC's has always gotten better with each new model, yet they still had some flaws. The only thing wrong with the GC3's was the insert design to mount the pocket castings, and the cushions that went bad. Both are fixable or replaceable today. GC4's had a better pocket casting design, but a piss poor frame design, but the frame can be modified to correct the bad design Brunswick put out, and the GC5's are very close to the Diamond Professional, but still has some problems with the pocket castings mounting, which is fixable by a good mechanic. I put the GC5 tied with the Diamond Professional because I still don't care for leather drop pockets on commercial pool tables....ANY commercial tables for that matter.

And the Diamond ProAm is number one, and more than likely will always remain number one because the table is absolutely perfect as far as I'm concerned, because I can't find anything about it to complain about:grin:

This is a nice thread, but it would have been nice to break it down into categories like "in your home" and "in your local pool room" as there's quit a difference between the two different locations. As Connelly's look like hell after about 4 years of commercial use, Olhausen's are not designed to last in a commercial environment, as particle board and MDF won't hold up under to many recoveries, and leather drop pockets tear apart sooner or later. Natural wood finished rails won't ever last in commercial use, unless you're into refinishing the rails every 4-5 years, or don't care about how the tables look for the customers.

It's too bad that many of my friends to the south have not played on a Black Crown, I'd love to see where people rank them.

Dave

The finest and most popular commercial table. The "Black Crown" is selected and renowned as the best table in most major tournaments. Built with precision on a state of the art numerical control machine, the "Black Crown" is a must when looking for maximum durability, solidity and appearance. The "Black Crown" is the first choice of billiard clubs and recreation centres.

I copied this off the web site you provided, which "Major" tournaments are they played on?;)
