Got this press-release from my friend Vincent Facquet, who is the man behind a fantastic new idea.

You have to play poker to qualify for a new World 8-ball Tour, which will consist of 7 yearly events played at casinos!

Check out the website www.poolpok.com

If you have any questions regarding this shoot out, because Vincent Facquet is a member of the forum and will probably read this thread :)

Here's the press release:

for the first event 8 players will be invited, then 120 will qualify through online pokerevents

next events 8 players on top of ranking will get spots, then 120 will qualify.

This means that A LOT of the top pros will NOT qualify, so people like me can actually have a chance to win a match or two in these events.

The idea is fantastic, imo

Time to practice poker. 3 pairs are better than flush???

ehhhh.... not so excited. Use poker as a way to qualify for pool tournaments???

That will result in a field full of hacks... and who wants to see that?

You have to qualify for a pool tournament by playing online poker?

That means that Johnny Archer and Ralf Souquet might have to stay at home while some hack (that probably doesn't own a cue) qualifies to pay 8 ball for $150K.

Ingenious.

roy :) that means i'll get a chance too !!

i think im a better pokerplayer then a poolplayer. Just finished 15th in a 8000 freeroll pokertournament for the WSOP. And i play enough pool to beat most pokerplayersbangers.

I'm IN !!!!

Seems very strange to me. Also am I the only one who thinks that hardcore online poker players aren't interested in getting off their computers and playing pool in a tournament in a casino - where if they are in a casino they probably want to be playing poker????

Good pool players might be interested in this but how much real money will they have to lose at online poker trying to qualify for these tournaments?

I don't know - it seems rather silly and ludicrous to me to mix the two like this. I am really really tired of all the poker and online casino ads invading pool.

I know pool sucks hind teat and has to take any money it can get but I really find it stupid to be watching a pool tournament and see an ad that says pretty much - "stop playing pool and spend your time and money playing poker or gambling online."

This seems a little far out there but hey if it works great.

It's retarded to me. Play poker so you can play pool.

I wish them the best so "a" poolplayer can earn a living, but it does nothing for professional players, or pool as a sport.

A weird idea but I hope it works. Anything to give pool a boost.

Alex likes poker, right?

Something I thought was kind of funny... I barely had heard the name Vincent Facquet before. I looked him up. Here's some (not all) of his tournament results according to AZB:

2009:
17th place Pro Player Championship
17th place Eurotour Italy Open
17nd place Predator International 10-Ball Championship

2008:
17th place Predator World Straight Pool Championship
17th place World Cup of Pool

2000:
17th place USA Billiards Challenger Event 1

17's his (un)lucky number.

Do you think a regular tv-viewer knows the difference of a pro-player or a b-player when they are watching?

All they will see, if this is broadcasted, is that normal guys and girls can get a chance to play 8-ball, the same game they play at the pub, at a casino and win a lot of money.

I think it is perfect. This means that thousands of players who are capable of running racks now will feel that they actually have a chance of making some cash.

If Souquet and Archer really wants a spot, which I think they will, let them hire a pokerplayer to log in to their name and try to qualify for them.

Exactly. There are thousands of poolplayers like you out there. This can be their chance to actually combine both their hobbies, and make some money on it.

I think this is mainly made for the thousands of pokerplayers who are poolplayers.

As a sidenote ALL the top filipinos plays poker all the time, Keith McCready does, during the European Championships people play poker at nights all over the place.

I doubt Chris Moneymaker will try his luck at these tournaments. I think it will be poolplayers trying their luck in the qualifiers.

It's retarded to me. Play poker so you can play pool.

I wish them the best so "a" poolplayer can earn a living, but it does nothing for professional players, or pool as a sport.

I think pool can get a buzz out of this. Perhaps the top 50 poolplayers won't make a lot of money on it, but I guarantee you that if some b-players start cashing in these tournaments Bartram & Co will be there handing them the 7 and out for all the cash they can carry ;)

It sounds like a clever way to get casual players to sign up to play online poker so that they can qualify for a turkey shoot.

Ralf should hire a poker player to qualify?
Bwahahahahahahahaha! UR2 FUNNY!!
:killingme:

I know Pro poker players that get paid $30.00 an hour to play online by the site themselves. Some of them let others login under their name and then they split the $30.00 an hour.

Blackjack is correct. This is a way to increase the membership and use of online poker. But pool players have 'used' other before and always live by the ends justify the means so I would say go for it.

I think for a change - you should invite the players that are ranked 32-40. They probably could use the money more than the top 8.

poolpok

Or maybe the top 8 players for the poker qualification that didn't make it after the qualification(120) is over?

Vincent,

I think alot of B players are going to try there chance...
The word is spreading quick!! i'm getting several emails from poolplayers talking about it, wich means you must be doing something interesting...

I really hope you get enough interest in this, and you can lounch this. I just hope it wont be another IPT thing. It just looks to good to be true :D

Will this be held in france or all over europe or the world?

Can you give some info on how the online poker will be held? fulltilt, partypoker, etc? just curious :p

The only thing i still miss is more info... What hour will the qualifiers be held? step system? How about hour differences in between country's?

Bonne chance Vincent d'un cousin Belge!

I know I for one wouldn't be interested in it. We see enough young punks in sunglasses as it is playing poker thinking they got the skills of a Doyle Brunson because they won a holdem tournament. Good luck if it works pool definatly needs all the help it can get but I will be very surprised if this goes off at all with any bang.
