Movie: Pool Hall Master

Just watched the trailers, no offense but seriously? The acting is bloody horrific, the action hero girl just back from her tour in Iraq and her fight scene in trailer 1? Seriously?

I am not THAT desperate for a pool flick, I never will be.

This movie makes the Baltimore Bullet look like The Godfather.

It's one of the few pool movies with real pool players. It's disappointing when people complain like this.

It's not a high-budget movie made by professionals in Hollywood; it's made by passionate people though who put a lot of work and hours into it.

My sentiments exactly. I look forward to getting my copy, and once the 9-Ball movie with Barretta and Lee is available, I'll purchase that one, too :)

Like I said, it will never get that far. There will be nothing to purchase....It's horrible....Who cares about non professional or professional, it stinks...Period......

Guess I'm partial to people that try and are passionate. I admit it! :embarrassed2:

Will you pay $35 + Shipping and Handeling though?

Compare that trailer to low budget productions such as

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apEZpYnN_1g

Or

http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi1927020825/

These two videos above (which I HIGHLY reccomend) are not only quality productions but they were not asking for people to shell out more money for a DVD then a major motion picture.

I am sorry but if you want to create a movie and then ask people to shell out $35 for it you had better create something worth $35, and this "Pool Hall Masters" is not even close. It is worse then a student in film school will do as a class project and it does not do a service to our sport at all to create something like that.

Sorry but on this topic I really am going to be blunt and straight up honest, this did not even look like a significant amount of effort was made, it looks like a very poorly envisioned storyline stealing heavily from the Hustler was dreamed up then they filmed it quickly without alot of effort in the acting, and then just set up the camera for a few flashy shots and figured "yep, lets try to get $35 a pop guys!". Sorry, no.

I am not talking about paying for anything, I am only talking about people that put a lot of work into something. I sincerely appreciate Joe's passion for the movie and pool.

Again, it may not be the best movie in the world, but I know Joe worked hours and hours on it - more than a year actually.

SeetMarissa,

Your copies will be sent out this weekend. Let me know what you think. It is my first independent film and I have learned alot from this one. Including the other software programs that are out there that I should have used. Too late for this one but not for the next one.

You're right, it's the passion for the game that drove me to making this movie. It will go out this weekend. Hope you enjoy it.

Some people have a passion for pool like I do. I spent all my weekends and money and I don't regret any minute or any penny spent. We all had a great time filming this. I knew from the start that I would be bashed by every other pool player out there. But it's those people that this movie is not intended for, these people need a pinata, since they only look for bashing anything or anyone. I wish these people would come up with their script, money and time and help this sport. There is some great acting and pool playing in this movie by these pool players which you have not seen. I guess some pros like you have no interest in either the movie, movie making or have that great of a passion for the game. I'm trying to do something and get people to go to their nearest pool hall and spend some quality time with their friends and enjoy what I think is the greatest sport on this earth.

Let me warn you ahead of time. There will be a Pool Hall Master II in 2010, and I won't let the few out there keep me from doing something for this sport. You can continue your bashing, that's what you're good at. You did a good job so far, I commend you.

I guess you failed to read some of the previous threads. For the pre-order of $35 the customers were getting the following:
1. T-shirt with the DVD cover that's on the website, any size shirt.
2. The Movie which is over 2 hours long
3. Also included is a 1 1/2 hour one-pocket tournament between Corey Deuel, Gabe Owen, Sylver Ochoa, and Rick Moreno. They played singles and then it was Sylver and Corey against Gabe and Rick.
4. They get a 4 hour DVD of the $3,000 One-Pocket shootout between Gabe Owen and Sylver Ochoa in which they commentate as to why they selected those particular shots and strategies.

The Pre-Orders were only for the first 1,000 orders. It is now over. The prices will change. Each will be sold separately.

As far as your assumptions as to what all went into making this movie, well you know what they say about people that assume.

When I decided to shoot this movie I knew I would get bashed by every other pool player out there. Do you actually think that would stop me? I don't think so, it's like saying that you will never play the guy who beat you last week or last year. If you're like me, I'm looking forward to playing him again. In my case, I am looking forward to making Pool Hall Master II next year. So what if there are bashers out there, I don't care, they are simply stating their negative opinion. As for me, I am trying to get people to watch either the movie with the accompanying tournament or the Gabe Owen/Sylver Ochoa shootout. Hopefully they want to go play pool with their friends and help out our local pool halls. My movie has several women pool players in it in hopes of getting more women to get into the sport. I love this game and will continue to do all I can with my time, money, and people who believe in me.

Good grief, that's pretty harsh. Do you know how much work goes into doing this kind of thing? They probably didn't have quite as much money as a Hollywood studio, so it won't look like the kind of film you're used to being fed.

Nobody deserves to be scorned like that for such a major effort.

anyone received a copy of this yet? i'd like to check it out but i'm not paying to get an iou (9ball pre ordered 20 copies)

Thanks and you're right. It was a BEAR! Unfortunately for me, I didn't have the budget to get Tom Cruise or any other known actor. This is one reason I decided to give them approximately 8 hours of entertainment, plus a free t-shirt (even if they use it to dry their car with) for the $35. Thank GOD for VHS tapes and DVDs, people always have the option to watch one of the other big budget movies anytime they want.

There's no telling when Hollywood will get someone to come up with a big budget Pool Movie, it might be years down the road. I hope that more people continue making independent films and they end up helping support their local pool halls. Keeping more of their doors from closing.

I'm sending out all the orders this weekend. So there should be some positive and negative threads next week on:

the movie - Pool Hall Master
the pool tournament - Corey, Gabe, Sylver, Rick
the shootout - Gabe against Sylver
the t-shirt with the DVD cover on it
the $35 they spent for all the above (approximately 8 hours on the DVDs)
*Most of the pre-orders will get a free mini-poster for being patient with me while I wrestled with problems that kept popping up everywhere, causing delay after delay. Thank all of you!!!!!!
***

(ALL THE ABOVE WAS FOR PRE-ORDERS FOR THE FIRST 1,000. THE PRICES HAVE CHANGED AND ITEMS WILL BE SOLD SEPARATELY. PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT THE NEW RATES. NO MORE FREE T-SHIRTS!)

STAY TUNED!
