Actually to take your analogy to the logical conclusion you are saying. "This is not your fathers old Micarta but new and better Micarta". That was kind of why I questioned even using the name of even being associated at all to old Micarta since it is not the same regardless of what the manufacture calls it. Since it is Micarta in name only forget the name all together, who cares. Give it a new name and market it as the newest and best ferrule material on the market today. Market it to every cue maker and manufacture in the world. Sell thousands of feet of the stuff instead of to people who buy no more then a foot or two at a time. You need to be very secretive as to what it is, how it is made and who manufactures it for you. If they want it, they have to get it from you.
Mason does not need someone to tell him how to market the yellow Micarta, but you could check with Chaz Dillon, I think he needs a marketing manager,LOL.
You didn't read the article. He says he is making Micarta like slabs. Micarta is a trademarked name by Norplex-Micarta for a small range of products they make. Sort of like Maytag makes washers and calls them Maytags. It doesn't not mean only one machine they make is a Maytag. In the same respect I can't begin building washing machines and calling them Maytag's because I think the public likes Maytags and it will help me sell my machines.Hey Mason, a lot of knife makers have started making their own micarta
for handles. Cut that supplier out and start gluing and pressing.

You could make the first blue jean ferrule.
Any material made by stacking resin or epoxy coated paper, cloth,
glass fabric,or whatever else then applying pressure and letting dry is micarta. I cant figure out why it would bother anyone unless they are
worried about getting stuck with a bunch of "older" micarta ferrules that no one is willing to pay $75 a pop for.

Hmm, since Atlas sells them, they must be the real micarta.

It is Micarta brand material. When you get the big sheets it comes with a sticker on it and a product number by Norplex.
Does that settle it then?
When Mason gets his rods and tubes from Norplex and they are labeled Micarta ( TRADEMARK btw ) and they are yellow, can he call them yellow micarta?
He can't call them asbestos micarta because they don't have any asbestos.
He can't call them Westinghouse Micarta or Formica Micarta either.
For me, I think this horse has been beaten enough.

Famous last words of todays struggling poor. Now you know why America is where it is in the world, arrogance.
You are right though, I guess if he want's to sell to to people who can't afford to buy more the 3 feet at a time when he could make deals to sell thousands of feet that is his business.
The more this thread goes on there seems to be an underling sense and it may be one of the real problems with pool. Pool and those involved in pool are just small time by their very nature. It is what has kept pool where it is and will probably keep it there. Small time, short term thinkers. It defines pool players. Only a few like maybe Greg Sullivan, Bob Meucci have ever had any real vision. The problem is, they languish in a vast wasteland when it comes to pool.
