One day, Just maybe sooner than some may think...
Getting the AZBilliards Forum's "STAMP of APPROVAL" might be worth something.

Personally, if I were a promoter or a professional pool player, I would not post on this forum unless I fully understood the medium, the audience and had the skills and time to respond and defend myself.

looks like they followed your advice...
Like it or not, the pros are going to show up. It is too big of a payday for them to pass it up. The amateurs will probably show up in droves as well.
Besides, with all the time invested as well as the money, why would they have to answer to anyone?

As to AZBilliards tainting the feeling of the promoters for this event: I think you may be right. It seems that the brain pool on AZBilliards has always been rather high and sometimes I think it is AZ Billiards that just comes off as arrogant to those who don't follow the Main Forum on a regular basis.
Also, just as a member I see posts that seem far more negative than they need to be but everyone's entitled to their opinion so that's not going to change.
Even though most people have their own agenda, AZBilliards presents a cross-section of the pool world, not just nationally but internationally and their consensus of opinion is worth noting.

This forum is better left to those who talk about pool, talk about doing things for pool and the doers of pool should just check in briefly to keep themselves informed about what the talkers say and this will help them keep their scalp in tact and they can continue on with their plans with additional perspectives to ponder.

If they had, we wouldn't be having this discussion. As it is, the bulk of the questions folks have, are still unanswered on their website and there have been no press releases.
There are certain Pro players and A players that can be counted on to be at pretty much any tournament that pays higher than a regional event. Outside of those folks, getting the "droves" to come out is a much more difficult process.
There are more of "us" (the working stiff amateurs with work, & family obligations) than there are of pro players that can be counted on to be at this tournament. The pro players will help bring in a few others but not enough to make a difference. The DCC, SBE, & BCAPL events cater to "us" and the pro's being there are a bonus.
Mark Griffin is about as successful as you can get in the pool world and is respected and trusted by most - pro & amateur. With that being said, ask him how the Qlympics fared. If he couldn't get more than a few outside of the ones that are always at an event, how hard of a time do you think these folks in Galveston are going to have, especially when they turn their nose up at the group of people they actually need/want to have at their event?
First of all I see very little "negativity" on this thread anywhere. What I do see is a lot of legitimate questions about a major pool event being promoted by a new promoter to the pool scene. How much more "normal" can something get I don't know.
It is obvious there is bias one way or the other about this event. Some people think it will be the greatest thing since sliced bread, and others think it is ill conceived and destined to fail. Probably the reality is that it will fall somewhere in between these two extremes. I would be surprised if it didn't happen, but that remains a possibility. I just hope they don't pull the plug (ala Trudough) without paying all the agreed upon prize monies.
One thing I don't understand, as a long time promoter of pool tourneys, is why they don't come on here and talk about their event. Other promoters (GSBT, Hopkins, Dragon etc.) have all used this forum very effectivley to promote their events. One thing I do know for sure is that in the promotion game the key word is PROMOTE! PROMOTE! PROMOTE! Anywhere and everywhere you can! Best of all it's free on here and you are definitely reaching your target audience. It is a pool tournament after all, and this forum is full of pool players who support events just like this one. HELLO!!!

There's plenty of reasons to ask questions. The IPT ripped the hearts out of plenty of people.
...and that guy was a legitimate multimillionaire! These guys just have a wealthy backer (which may not be bad)!

Well.......let's just say multimillionaire.

Ray...All the word legitimate is meant to mean, is that Trudeau actually HAD true dough...not saying anything about how he achieved getting it!
He just tried to go TOO big, all at once (he did, however, promote the heck out of the IPT...something that, sadly, is not happening here...yet).
