Who would be your pick to build a Theme Cue

I am wanting a Theme Cue built for me. It will be a military themed cue. I work for the Veterans Administration and I am wanting something unique and something that I can put on loan to the VA Regional Office here in Muskogee to be displayed in the main case in the front office. There is some artwork that is displayed and I would like to display something in cue form, to everyone that walks into the VA Office

I am wanting something that will show the sacrifice our service men and women give each and every day to ensure we have the freedom most americans take for granted.

I have a general idea on what I want, but need your help to guide me in a direction as to who would be someone you think would be the best pick.

I will also have a case made to go along with the overall theme of the cue.

thanks in advance for all your help guys!

Have to double check this info

Shawn,

I am fairly certain I am giving the straight skinny about JoeyA's POW/MIA cue and case. I think Mike Bender did the cue and Jack Justis did the case. Both are things of beauty and true functional art. Joey is at Galveston right now. I do know he posted pictures of the cue and case. I'll try to locate them and post a link or you can talk to Joey and get the info if I can't find it.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought of Joey's POW themed Cue and case.

Mike Bender did an outstanding job on Joey's cue.

The pics dont do the cue justice. I would go with Mike especially for a military themed cue.

I'm service connected and if not for that I dont know what id do about the knee surgery that I need and am going in for tomorrow. so i thank you for your service to the VA and hope that your cue turns out awesome...

Thanks guys

I have a cpl ideas in my head, not sure if I want to go with a Disabled American Veteran type theme...or just a military theme in general. I have the ideas in my head, just need to contact someone to get them on a cue.

Being that I work for the VA, and a disabled Vet myself, I think it would be neat, and a great tribute to the disabled veterans and the familes to show them what a cuemaker can do. They have different paintings and carvings showing this, I just think it would be neat to display something like this.

We have hundreds of disabled Vets walk through our doors each and every day, and we honor them the best way that we can. I give 100% of my energy to each and every Vet that I personally deal with. I think this would be something that they would enjoy seeing, and would make them proud to knwo someone did it for "THEM"

I appreciate each and every veteran out there..

I will be praying for you tomorrow...

picture index

Shawn,

This is a link to the picture index of joey's cue and case I believe. It is a working cue and case that sees use every day so there are a few knicks on it but. it is very nice. I usually can't resist a closer inspection of the cue and case every time I see them. This is just a good indication of the one off work that Mike Bender and Jack Justis can turn out. I know you wouldn't want to copy the cue or case.

Shawn, if I were having a Special Cues made for myself I would seriously consider contacting Bill Schick or Ron Haley there is no way anyone could go wrong with either one of these guy's.

All I can say take a look at their work before you decide.

true

It's a great cue . Also I would like to see what Chris Hightower
could do with a theme cue .

I totally agree Craig..This really is not going to be an easy thing. First, there are only a handful of cuemakers that I would think would be willing to tackle something like this. I want top quality work in this cue. I want nothing but the best and I want this to be a cue that when a Vet sees it, he or she gets a huge lump in their throat and they KNOW that this is for THEM! When someone sees this cue, I want them to know that the Veteran GIVES UP EVERYTHING...in order for us to live in a Free Land!

I just want to honor our Veterans, but, there is a dark side to that...its to the THOUSANDS of Men and Women, who gave us their all, and are now suffering each and every day with Mental, and Physical Wounds from being in combat. I see this every day and it tears my hart up. These men and women are not thought of anymore. They think that if a Vet comes home, then thats the end of it....that cant be farthest from the truth...their pain and suffering is JUST beginning..we dont think about them...I want to do this for them!

So this has to be someone special to do this. This cue will have alot of meaning...Just like Joeys cue. This cue will be so everyone will remember the disabled vets....so it will take someone special to make it!

Any ideas you guys have for me to contact about doing this is greatly appreciated.....or if you are that SPECIAL cuemaker and want to contact me.....send me a pm

Mike Bender was my first thought as well. Good luck with the surgery. Knee surgery can be a pain as it seems to take forever to get better (especially for me since I am very very impatient). Last, but not least thank you for you service.

If I were to think of someone who would stop what they were doing to make a cue like this I would also think of Barry Szamboti and Dennis Searing. The cue would pose something new and meaningful to them so I would think they would be all over it.

Richard Black and Bill Schick (*sp) also come to mind. They bring cue artistry to a higher level.

Great project. I think there are a number of guys who could do the work well. I am guessing the best way to do it would involve plenty of scrimshaw work. Which would mean either an ivory handle or ivory boxes. I guess you may get them to do some sort of substitute as a canvas for the scrimshaw to keep the price out of the stratosphere.

In no particular order I think these guys would do a great job:

Schick
Bender
Drexler
Gilbert
Stroud
Ernie. (not sure I have seen any of his cues scrimshawed so I dont know if he offers that through a second party)

There are plenty more guys out there who I am sure would do it justice as well. I don't know your budget for the project but if you go with an ivory handle or boxes for scrim work then it is going to have to be substantial for any of the guys listed especially Schick and Ernie.

As mentioned Keith Walton has some amazing military themed cues and could probably help with some information. Good luck with a very worthy project.

Hu,

Thanks for putting the link up to Joey's cue. I've been wanting to check it out again.

I am thinking I would personally like the cuemaker to do all the work himself. Although, if the cuemaker trusts someone to do the scrimshawwork, then that would be fine. I just want something that when people see this cue...they just say WoW..The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards Bill Schick...but, I am not counting anyone out..Thanks for everyones input
