Anyone catch that horrible skit SNL did last night on women's pool. It was based on the players being lesbian dykes and commentators not having a clue to what pool was about. A real very public kick in the teeth to the sport. If you missed it they should have it on their website soon.

wow. i cant believe i missed it. i was watching SNL and the second or third skit "Gilly" was sooooooooo bad i had to turn off the tv. :barf: I was actually going to start a thread this morning in NPR about how bad SNL is these days, until I saw this thread already started. Even as a pool devotee, i have a feeling i'll still hate the Jilly skit more after I see the one about pool.

I thought it was pretty funny, myself. I also think it is actually good for the sport just to get some mainstream recognition. It is a spoof it is not supposed to be taken seriously.

They say Bad Press is better than no Press.

Pool doesn't need any more negative public perception than it already has. What we do need is a Famous Celebrity who is a player and supports the sport. Just think what would happen if say the President was a Player.

I came home just in time to see the Abomination No Bell Piece Prize skit but soon turned away because SNL has real lost it's appeal. So I missed it also. Maybe some one will post a link when it is on their website.

lighten up peeps, its a play on tampex & 2 goofs that dont know their own names, talk about reading shit into it.

The comedy was pretty bad....the spoof was pretty good, imho.

I liked the throwing the talc in the air and chalking the cue with that. I could see many a drunk imitiating that move.

Maybe they're thinking of getting Jeanette as a guest host?

There was a time

There was a time when SNL was cutting edge and funny as hell. However with life itself being so ridiculous and almost parody, and perhaps the dumbing down of the audience, things have to be played so broadly now to not seem like a straight news report that the skits are simply ridiculous. I remember when somebody that didn't realize they were watching SNL could watch for a few minutes before realizing it was just a skit.

As for what they did to women's pool, they took a little bit of fact and perception and stretched it to an extreme just like they do most things. It isn't going to hurt the WPBA and may encourage a few people to take a look, or would if DirecTV hadn't quit carrying ESPNC.

Agreed! There were some hilarious lines, "When you have a slacks attack, tamp it to the max!" And many others. The fact that would spoof women's pool is a positive sign that someone is watching. Now a spokesperson for the WPBA should go on record objecting to the skit, getting maximum mileage out of the publicity value.
