SNL does neg skit on women's pool.

I think they really slammed ESPN and some of the many ignorant sports broadcasters and commentators sports fans have to deal with.
Pool was just the vehicle, the sposnor provided an opportunity for their juvenile type of humor, but a commentator who doesn't know anything...that's a sad, but often accurate, description.

I didn't find it particularly funny, but SNL rarely gets my attention these days anyway. They will never be the show they were when it first started.

Steve

That was terrible... But SNL hasn't been funny since the days of Chris Farley, Dana Carvey and Mike Miers.

Any reference to the game is good I suppose.

Haaa, wasn't that Mitch Lawrence?

I think most fans of SNL, know that they make fun of everyone and everything. I don't think they're gonna set pool back 20 years, and I really didn't find it offensive.
When SNL made fun of Al Gores manor of speech and robot actions he actually changed the way he spoke during his campaign. Yes, it set women's pool back because the main stream believe what they see in satire. I.E. women who excel at pool to the pro ranks must be lesbians. Not to mention they were depicted as not even being able to play, (Remember the break shot)? This is a belief many male players have anyway. Women's pool was just dropped a notch and given a blow to it's legitimacy in the public perception and perception is everything.

Anyone catch that horrible skit SNL did last night on women's pool. It was based on the players being lesbian dykes and commentators not having a clue to what pool was about. A real very public kick in the teeth to the sport. If you missed it they should have it on their website soon.
Get over it!
It was not funny (except for the Tampax plugs, forgive the pun).

You know you're doing something right when they start making fun of you in skits and parodies, whether they're funny or not. And if you're looking for good taste, don't watch SNL.

Lighten up!

I thought the same thing Steve.

I thought it was actually kinda funny. :lmao:

It almost made me Shart in my undies

One of the writers of the skit definitely has some interest in pool

Yeah, that is what I had to think. He might have hit a little to close to home for some of the people here. The guy who wrote this skit simply took women's pool of the early 90's and did a caricature of it, exaggerating things that were already there.

SNL is a mere shadow of what it once was. That being said, the skit was funny and rooted in truth. It won't negatively effect the WPBA in way.

With some very notable and rare exceptions, SNL,imho, has proven to be the most overrated, lame, and unfunny comedy show in the history of t.v. Madtv, among others, blow it away.

It wasn't one of their better skits, but I really like SNL. A lot of talented people on the show, and they have to come up with 90 minutes of funny stuff every week - not so easy.

I guess I'm naive, but I didn't see any lesbian suggestions. If it was there it was too subtle for me. I suppose the Greta character was a little mannish, but I didn't even notice the first time I watched it. It was just a lot of Tampax jokes and a riff on clueless color commentators. They made him gay for a few extra laughs.

One of the writers apparently saw an ESPN Classic women's pool show and picked up the cliche "sledgehammer break", which is worth making fun of.

Trivia - did you know that Don Pardo, the SNL announcer since the beginning (1975), is now 91 years old?

I didnt remember that on ESPN, I always assumed it was from the Color Of Money. So did ESPN commentary get it from the movie, or did TCOM get it from ESPN?

What's not accurate?

Well, the commentator for most WPBA events is Mitch Laurence who is a former actor on Beverly Hills 90210 and not really an expert or former player like the commentators for mens events like Billy Incardona or Grady Matthews or Allen Hopkins, etc.

A lot of the women players are lesbians, but that is their business. So, while the SNL skit was not well done, it is spoofiing actualities.

Some of you guys need to learn to take a joke. Though it was directed at "us", its a joke. SNL has been doing that to everyone and everything since before I was born. They arnt going to stop now. They have made fun of basketball, football, figure skating... everything. Like the saying, "it funny til it happens to you". Well, it happened to you, and well, I thought it was funny.

Lighten up and take it as the JOKE that it is.

BTW, bad publicity is good publicity.

If SNL did that 32 years ago it might have been funny. You know, with a real cast and talented writers.

I don't watch SNL anymore but sometimes they are right on. One of the writers must have watch an ESPN show. Everyone knows that those commentators don't know anything and depending on the players it could have been 2 dykes.

At least Women's Pro Pool has risen to the level where SNL makes fun of it.

That's a good thing.

some of you guys are pathetic.....

It was funny, more as a joke about ESPN and Tampax than anything...

But it seems that anytime anyone makes fun of someone who's black, gay, retarded, etc... anymore you get all these PC morons coming out of the wood work, they are JOKES people get a sense of humor.

wow. I cant believe i missed it. I was watching snl and the second or third skit "gilly" was sooooooooo bad i had to turn off the tv. :barf: I was actually going to start a thread this morning in npr about how bad snl is these days, until i saw this thread already started. Even as a pool devotee, i have a feeling i'll still hate the jilly skit more after i see the one about pool.

hahahah. I did the same thing. That gilly skit is a good idea just poorly executed imo
