SNL does neg skit on women's pool.

Yes it was bad but on SNL no one or no group is untouchable. A few things can happen from it IMO. One, all women pool players and men that thought it hurt the WPBA can write in to the show to tell them they won't be watching SNL anymore. Two, mainstream viewers that didn't know about women's pool on TV will tune in and see that these ladies can play very well=more fans. Three, groups like Now and other women's groups will write to the network, show, and their sponsers telling them they will boycot the show and the sponsers products. Bad press is not good ALL the time, not when it hurts peoples (players) income. JMO. Johnnyt

Agreed! There were some hilarious lines, "When you have a slacks attack, tamp it to the max!" And many others. The fact that would spoof women's pool is a positive sign that someone is watching. Now a spokesperson for the WPBA should go on record objecting to the skit, getting maximum mileage out of the publicity value.

"Say anything you want about me, just don't spell my name wrong." Mae West.

Yes they should publicly object like FAST while it's still fresh in viewers minds. Turn it in to a positive. Johnnyt

I miss the good ole days of SNL with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd! :)

I thought this was humorous though. If SNL did a spoof making fun of me, I would be flattered!

I say lighten up, too! The sport is being noticed and we have the ladies to thank for that! Maybe if the men ever organize as good as the ladies have, someone will do a parody on us. ;)

I just saw it. Thats really Fu(ked up because some of these football commentors are pretty bad too, but because the sport is so big, people don't think about how much nonsense is coming out of their mouths.

RIP Chick Hearns:rolleyes:

i am a huge nfl fan and i couldn't agree more. the most painful part of a broadcast is usually the idiots in the booth. that being said that skit was horrible. i have been watching snl for almost thirty years and that show has sucked for the last ten. thay are lucky if they have four funny sketches a month. at least now they have given me a reason to stop watching all together.

Did anyone notice the square rail cushions on the table?

Probably one of the worst SNL skits I've ever seen.

you obviously haven't seen Gilly. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/gilly-art-class/1165567/  :speechless:  :bash: :kma: :barf: :banghead: can we get a suicidal emoticon up in here because these emoticons do not do justice to the self inflicted pain I get from watching Gilly?!

back to the pool skit, i thought the skit wasnt bad. And I agree that the WPBA should start a riot about it to get some attention.

I'm with you Jay, there were some funny lines. They (SNL) have crossed the line in poor taste before without apology. IMO, the haven't crossed the line with this skit. We all miss the old days of SNL but todays comedy is in a much different vein than that of 30 years ago.

Has anyone seen the skits with David Patterson. Makes you cringe and LYAO at the same time.

Paul

SNL has been getting worse for years. I rarely watch it anymore. Do the young kids think that stuff is funny? Idiocracy. The Dumbing Down of America.

I actually thought it was pretty funny. I remember years ago when SNL did a spoof of the hustler. The image of the clock going around and around as Fast Eddie and Fats couldn't make a ball for hours

I say lighten up and enjoy the pub for the game.

While SNL is nothing close to what it used to be and the skit was so so. Are some of you really serious? Call in and complain? Tell them you wont watch anymore?

My god I cant believe how sensative some people are.

Get over it, its a freakin skit. Some parts good, some parts bad, but it was better than nothing.

IMO one thing that would have made it better would be to have one of the WPBA players in the skit. And you all cant tell me that the clueless dude didnt make you think of Mitch!

that is what I noticed

One of the writers of the skit definitely has some interest in pool, might even be a lurker here. Was there really that much in the skit that hasn't been posted here many a time?

Well, maybe the powder in the air technique . . . gotta try that one!

that's the LeBron technique ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SiQKxja79M ) ....everyone under the age of 25 does it!!! LOL.

The skit could have been written better to get some more digs in on the pool players (instead of focussing so much on the tampon sponsor), but it wasn't SNL's worst effort....

lighten up folks.

Snl

The comedy was pretty bad....the spoof was pretty good, imho.

I liked the throwing the talc in the air and chalking the cue with that. I could see many a drunk imitiating that move.

Maybe they're thinking of getting Jeanette as a guest host?

Jeff Livingston

I agree, it could have been funny but it wasn't.
Good spoof, not too funny though.
Now the Seinfeld episode with Kramer, Frank Costanza, and the Mistro playing...that was really funny

I think the depiction of women pros as nothing but lesbian dykes who can't really play, after all they are just women, is not the image I think the women pros would like to see. Since most people assume that all satire is based in some fact it will be what the public who saw the sketch will come away with.

I think the women's pool players should jump on this and get some real positive publicity in the main stream media. They could get a spot on any main stream outlet if they made a stink about the degrading depiction. In other words, it can be a good thing for them if they put out a statement right now. Not one so much complaining but one to set the record straight. And yes, maybe even next week a top woman pro on the show in some aspect.

I agree some of the tampax lines were funny. This skit could have been alot worse had they really played to the lesbian angle. Lesbians, round cylindrical pool cues, SNL, you could have gotten a lot worse....

I just saw the skit, thanks for the link. I thought it was in bad tast but not so far off on many points. First did you see how it started it was from 1991 so they watched enough to notice most pool is not current.

Then the announcers they really nailed Mitch not knowing much about the game. At least when other sports have a non player announcer other than Dennis Miller they know and understand the game. Why on earth does pool have idiots in the box. Listening to the commentary from the streams we know there is a ton of decent commentary available but womens pool goes with Mitch he is a joke and I do not think it helps the game at all.

As far as the players no comment the skit was off in left field on that one women players today can at least play and this skit did that no justice. But hey it is pitful SNL humor what do you expect.

Now on the other item having Tampax as a sponsor. That had some off color funny one liners sick but funny. Not a bad idea though I think it would be great if that kind of sponsor could be gotten for either men or womens pool. If they would dump some consistent sponsor cash in the game I would listen to whatever the sponsor wanted to say. Look at bowling they have Lumber Liquidators and Dennys and Motel 6.

In closing Pool needs any exposure it can get and in bad taste or no at least people are talking about pool today. Nearly 1100 views on the SNL site.

personally

Anyone catch that horrible skit SNL did last night on women's pool. It was based on the players being lesbian dykes and commentators not having a clue to what pool was about. A real very public kick in the teeth to the sport. If you missed it they should have it on their website soon.

I think most fans of SNL, know that they make fun of everyone and everything. I don't think they're gonna set pool back 20 years, and I really didn't find it offensive.

It was just a goof. They could have done the same thing for men's pool, honestly.

That's why they need guys like Joe Rogan to actually keep you from falling asleep during the commentating.

Hey, they're knocking it because pool on TV is the most boring shit in the world to most of America. MMA was the most boring crap in America as well YEARS ago until the UFC "MADE" it exciting.

Someone needs to make pool exciting too. They should hire Vince McMahon or something.
