Borana on the Cover of Inside Pool

To me, it sounded like some folks were giving her a hard time JUST BECAUSE she may not be as great a player as some, and yet, she managed to get on the cover. I have won a lot of tournaments (no US Opens or anything but still......), and I've never been on the cover, and I'm not ugly! LOL! Well, I don't think so anyway. HA! Sure, IP may have used her beauty to sell more magazines, so what? I think the article ALSO covered the determination she has to want to become a better and more known player.

I mean, why shouldn't all the hard work and dedication she's put in, be rewarded? Seriously, there are too many downers in this world already, why add more to it? Let's just all be happy for her that she is advancing in an arena that she loves.

Peace,
Amanda

Please post a pic of yourself, if you were on the cover of Inside Pool, what you think you would want it to look like.

p.s. I think Anna Kournikova is a great tennis player.

I wouldnt mind cooking her a hot homemade meal. That is as long as her over half wouldnt mind

Doubt it, since neither are WPBA touring pros.

I'll agree wit hteh one post about Inside Pool putting a fairly attractive (Poolroom standards) amateur player on the cover. Inside Pool seems to cover more amateur events, and this plays into their niche.

I'll also give Borana the benefit of the doubt; while I don't know her, other than seeing her at a local tourney, if she doesn't get an overblown ego over this, then it's all good.

Eric >next topic

Inside Pool Magazine covers MORE TOURNAMENTS than ANY other magazine. That is what separates them from all of the other magazines, imo.

What is this world coming to.
What ever happened to all is fair in love and war.
Forget that other guy stuff.

If you want something, GO GET IT!

Breaking through

Good luck B. I think that most of the people that have posted, have been very gracious and realize that everyone is struggling to break through to higher ground. If Borana can do it, that would be great. If the person who gets a chance because of Borana, that would be great too. The point is that supporting this, whether you like or dislike Borana can give you a better chance to be in the same position. More magazine sales is what their business is, no matter what. If this comes out good for them, you will probably see more of it, and that may be you on the cover. In the past, there was always such outrage about this kind of situation that magazines are scared to take chances. So for that, I really commend IP for their forward thinking. And to all of you future covers, good luck.

let's see yours

I am ugly and can't draw my ball. I don't think that JR would ever put me on the cover of IP - although I do have dreams.

Okay dainese919, I showed you mine. Now show me yours.
You can PM me it if you like.

I bet if I wrote an article for Inside Pool it would sell more copies than Borana on the cover. Any takers? Unfortunately won't happen - JR banned me from his defunct, inflated statistical forum site some time ago.

p.s. akatrigger - If you were on the cover of IP, you know what pic to use.

Good plug, Joey. :o

IPM does cover more tourneys than any mag. All pool rags cover the pros. IPM covers more amateur events than the others, so having a mid level amateur player as a cover story may play into that niche.

Don't know why, but I took you as someone 50+ but the mind and wit of a 25 year old. I was way off. Its always kind of funny to see what these internet people really look like.

Way off? Hold old do you think I am? Hint: the lil girl is not mine. Her dad can draw his ball a lot better than me.

p.s. dainese919: I am still waiting to see your pic.

wow, profile check = October 31, 1967

You look a min 20 years younger than that. Not even the way you are dressed, just dont look a day over 20. Maybe its just that picture...

wow.

I am so proud of my KOD girl -- She works really hard on her game and her improvement in such a short amount of time is unbelievable. You go girl! So happy for you. :)

I have played Borana once on the Tri-State tour, it was the the tournament that she finished 3rd. Please believe me when I say I ESCAPED with a victory. One shot here or there and the match would have had a different outcome, I seem to remember a combo on the 9 (in the side pocket) that she missed. Today, I have no doubt that she would drain it. If you are an A player and you draw her (handicapped or not) you are in for a REAL fight. Her knowledge of the game is second to none.

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!

After a couple years of pool, really...REALLY? Just coz you put the words together does not make them true.

See BB, this is the thing, i am split on these statements.

Gail G's statement is a relative observation.
For all we know, Borana might not have been able to HOLD a cue, much less pocket a ball when she first started, so if she managed to improve from a Tomato Can, to someone that can actually play ok, that IS a lot of improvement.
The only clear way to know is it you saw her from day 1 till now, and i'll be the first to say that the learning curve is different for everyone.
Some, it might take years to improve just a little, while others, it happens relatively quickly.

As for Fleece3's comment if you break it down, it's coming from a B player at best, since her 3rd place finish happened in a BCD event.
So for a B player to say that her knowledge is second to none, it's kind of reaching if you ask me, cause we all know knowledge takes a LOT of time.
But he's obviously happy for her. So with that in mind, i think we can take that comment with a grain of salt, and except it for what it really is.
Well wishing for a fellow player.

But all that aside, she IS in the epicenter of great pool.
She has access to not just a champion or 2, but MANY past and present World Class Pros, open players and shortstops that excel in various disciplines.
All pool players should be that fortunate.
