...besides the fact that she markets herself aggressively.

It was mentioned earlier that she and I had played in a tournament. In that tournament of less than 8 girls, we both had the same finish -- we went 1-and-2.

So, I figure we play about the same.

In this tournament, she was exceedingly rude to the other players. Among the things she told us included:

- Our pool hall was "ghetto" and we should move the tournament elsewhere.
For the record, the pool hall has 20 Gold Crowns. The tournament tables include tables with 4" (or less) pockets. Ernesto Dominguez does the tables.

- We were "lucky" that she came to play.
Because, you know, our pool hall was so "ghetto".

- When our tournament director went over to welcome her back (she had played in a previous tournament) Mary (practicing on the billiard table) greeted her with: "People know me everywhere I go." Our tournament director (surely one of the sweetest girls in pool you will ever meet) said, "Yes, we know all about that." Mary insisted she didn't know *JUST* how famous she was and informed her that she sold posters of herself.

- In her first match, Mary told her opponent, "Oh, you have to play me? How sad for you! How sad!"

- In another match, Mary made it a point to tell her opponent that she did martial arts and that no one ever sparred with her anymore because "she hurt them all too badly".

- Mary made a comment in the "hottest girl in pool" thread that she played a girl in Santa Monica who was hot but it was too bad she couldn't make three balls. That girl just won our last ladies' 8-ball tournament. Also, Mary neglected to mention that she, herself, couldn't run three balls either.

In both tournaments, Mary took great care to tell us that she was well-known, famous, had fans, sold posters, was the best player in her pool hall, and that she had scores of people ready to back her in money games and in tournaments.

To men, Mary speaks with great friendliness and even modesty about her game. To women, she is the exact opposite. This tells me she has underlying insecurity issues regarding other women players.

The other players she bullied in the tournament were not comfortable enough with their games or the idea of gambling to call her out to play. I, however, don't have that kind of sensible thinking and so, I am calling her out to play.

I don't care about her self-promotion. If anything, it benefits me. Every hour she spends taking pictures of herself or expounding her keyboard wisdom is another hour away from table.

But I DO care when you pick on my friends who are just other women who love to play pool.

Ohhhhhhh. I didn't know all of this. That's it Mary. I am withdrawing my squerving support.

Well..... maybe I had better get some corroboration on the dark side of The Red Angel.

I know OMGWTF knows how to open up someone's nose even if she doesn't have 3 black belts.

If what you say is true about her behavior, (and I have no reason to think it isn't) then I get something a little different than "self esteem" issues.

Actually, i see it as 180 degrees removed from that.

I've met quite a few girls like that. Their problem is a HUGELY inflated ego, COMBINED with a well tuned ability for manipulating guys to achieve their own goals.

This leads them to look down on other women, and to "buddy up" up to the guys they want something from. I honestly think she probably thinks she is truly a great player, and that she truly thinks she is close to being the hottest woman in pool.

It's funny. She's definitely into self promotion, but so is Jeanette Lee. Jeanette Lee is universally loved, and Mary is already starting to make enemies in her playing area.

Mary's self promotion is ham handed at best, and painful to look at at worst. Jeanette Lee's self promotion is more refined, MUCh more effective, and generally, everyone looks at it like "Hey, she's gotta make a living, and goshdarnit, she's just so NICE, so I don't mind buying her products."

At the risk of being obtuse, this overinflated ego + male manipulation + cattiness with competing woman is highly characteristic of.....

You guessed it. Strippers.

I'm just SAYIN'! :-D

girls like this usually love me because I don't give a sh*t how hot they think they are. One taste of the sweet rod and she'd be back down to earth.

Russ

Don't, whatever you do, knock strippers. If there is anything this world needs its more strippers. Please take it back.

I like strippers.

Thanks

Kevin

Hey hey hey!

I didn't say anything BAD about strippers.. I was just pointing out the personality similarities.

Oh well. Kind of sad to see actually... But assuming just a fraction of this is true, maybe someone will be better off for taking the hit. Assuming it hits home.

Women!!! :) ;)

Wow, I really don't understand why people keep comparing Mary with professionals. Jeanette Lee was playing A-speed before anyone had even heard of her. Admittedly, that says a lot about the progress of the internet than anything else but still, the two are not the same.

Inflated egos are very profitable. OMGWTF could have quietly taken advantage of that.

I have to say I back OMG WTF on this 100%.
I was a witness to "The Mary"'s rudeness...in fact, I was on the butt end of it (no pun intended). When she told me she "got publicity wherever she went", I laughed and said, "Honey, we all do", she then went on to say "Obviously we're not talking about the same thing". Really Mary? What are we talking about then?
I cannot think of ONE female player that I know that has not been bombarded with man help.
Clearly you've spent way too much time by yourself if you think for a second that that this only happens to you. Do you really think that you don't have competition out here in the big world? There are a few of us who know a little bit about pool who have seen you play.
I say you take the challenge and show what you're worth!
Hell, since you're a "snooker player" (cough, cough) why don't you challenge OMG WTF to play you in snooker?
Oh, and try to be nice! The pool community is a very tight little community and it's never a good idea to shit where you eat!

Jude,

I think you missed why OMGWTF wanted to challenge her in the first place. It's not bout the money. It's bout exposing Mary for someone other than a self promoting pool player who has stated "I will go pro eventually." Mary has insulted and attempted to intimidate the female players in her area and comes on the forums pretending to be something else. It's not bout the money, its the principle.

It's always good to have another person validate (what OMGWTF claims). Thanks for doing so Feline Fraulein.

I only see one way Mary gets off the mat (not The Matt ;)). And that is to take it like an adult, apologize for her actions and take the challenge.

Here kitty kitty.

No, I got that. More to what I'm saying though, I think most here know what Avina is all about. It doesn't take a very trained eye to gauge her speed even with her editted videos. My approach in handling the situation would have simply been different and more geared toward making sure a match actually happened.

Here's my little wonton :)

That baby is not wearing Pink Bunny attire...oh no this forum gets more and more interesting. Marissa do you moonlight as PinkbunnyDonny? Hahaha. I just watched some of 88 minutes I feel like I can pick up on any subtle clues and recreate a serial killer's murder scene.
