How bout those bronx bombers baby

sorry.. I'm from the middle of the country... where a fair game.. is more exciting than a rigged game..

new yorkers.. will take "the fix is in" every time they don't want a game they have to win .. they want a game they can't lose..

NYC invented the NIT!!

Oh please...now you're bordering on delirium. There's no guarantee that money = championship. Let's see, Tampa Bay, Florida, Minnesota, Colorado, Arizona...how are these teams making the playoffs with no money? Or are the Yankees rigging that?

Every single ball club owner is wealthy beyond wealthy...we're talking about billionaires here. Don't be fooled. Tampa Bay has the money to spend just like Boston and New York...but they don't. That's not New York's fault. Some owners invest in their team and some don't. What's a salary cap going to do?
1. Teams that spend money will continue to spend money. That money will go into the farm system where they will foster the best young prospects and win championships.
2. Teams that don't spend money will continue to not spend money and they'll be at a severe disadvantage to the better farm systems.
3. There will be absolutely nothing to keep every player from banging down the door at Fenway or Yankee Stadium. There's a certain prestige that comes from wearing the same uniform as Mickey Mantle or Ted Williams...just ask any 12 year old. As it is now, at least a competing team can offer the salary.

So you think that a salary cap will make baseball more competitive?
MLB - 8 different World Series winning franchises since 2000
NFL - 7 different Super Bowl winning franchises since 2000
NHL - 7 different Stanley Cup winning franchises since 2000
NBA - 5 different NBA Finals winning franchises since 2000

the farm teams grow players... the money teams buy them..

how does that NY MN series pan out if we have guys like Hunter and Santana.. guys we made guys we groomed and guys we should still have ...

we have players and we used to have more players... in a salary cap system WE have, Morneau, and Mauer... but we don't lose Hunter we don't lose Santana.. NOW in a salary cap world we can swing with your Yankees all day long..

fairness is in the eye of the beholder...

there is nothing fair nor honest about baseball.... for all of footballs faults.. it's not nearly as boring most of the time and not nearly as tied to the owners bank account...

who is this Yan kees and how much weight was he giving this guy phil eez? they sound foreign!

G.

Over 60 year Yankee fan here. Have had dinner at the track with George and his wife many times. He is a good guy and gives a lot of his money to a lot of causes that aren't known to most. He flys under the radar with that. Johnnyt

After reading thru this thread I find it unbelievable that there are so many sore losers. I hope that is not how they react when they play pool. The Yankiees are a Dynasty. Great players make a great team and they've been a great team since day 1. And I'm a Earl Strickland fan too.

If you are going to attempt to speak on this subject, then you should have some knowledge before you speak

Alfredo Aceves - signed out of Mexico
Joba Chamberlain - drafted 2006
Phil Coke - drafted 2002
Phil Hughes - drafted 2004
Andy Pettitte - drafted 1991
Mariano Rivera - signed out of Panama
David Robertson - drafted 2006
Melky Cabrera - signed out of Dominican Republic
Robinson Cano - signed out of Dominican Republic
Francisco Cervelli - signed out of Venezuela
Brett Gardner - drafted 2005
Derek Jeter - drafted 2002
Hideki Matsui - signed out of Japan
Jorge Posada - drafted 1990

Now, your second point made with no knowledge, unless the salary cap was 40 million - the other teams you are thinking of would still be at a disadvantage. Teams such as KC and Pittsburgh only survive because of the Yankees. They can continue to have a sub 40 million dollar payroll because the Yankees pay them a payroll tax. The owners of these small market teams survive due to the Yankees money.

Jeter was '92, obvious typo but...

When you say "signed out of Japan" what you meant to say is "The Yankees threw more money at him than anyone else could". That is the story with the Yanks. I am not hating on them for being able to roll deep but it really doesn't generate the same excitement when they win as when a smaller market team does. It seems as if they didn' "earn" it as much, but that's just me.

BTW- congrats on dodging a bus.

I used to follow baseball closely but the roid scandal turned me off. Did the Yankees win because they have figured out how to beat the roid test better than anybody else? Nobody knows.

Glad you said this because I was about to say the same thing, all those players were brought up by the Yankees. The Yankees just paid them to stay in NY, nothing wrong with that! I hope this team turns out to be like the Yankees from the late 90's when they won 4 out 5 years.

Just because a team spends money doesn't mean anything, 3 out of the top 5 teams with the highest payrolls didn't even make the playoffs and the Yankees didn't make the playoffs last year.

This is the exact point I made to an Angels fan. He was complaining about how we buy our teams. I pointed out that the Angels bought their entire outfield, no exceptions. Teams sign players, it's not uncommon. The Yankees do not have to be the machine that they are. The Mets make similar money, pay out similar money and haven't won a world series in 23 (about to be 24) years. If smaller market teams cry that it's unfair, I hate to break it to them but LIFE IS UNFAIR. You don't like the market you're in, MOVE! See, Expos.

Pffft...interesting. The Angels have the 6th highest payroll.

DIE YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phillies ROCK!

That is not to be mistaken with the Phillies are the best, or the Phillies are the greatest cause they really stink.

If they can't beat the Yankees, then they should all go hang themselves.

But since they are from Philly, THEY ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yankees blow it out the muffler.

I am happy to see that they bought another championship. At the same time George Steinbrenner's shipbuilding company laid off more than 1000 employees last year but still had the resources to sign 3 players for half a billion dollars. Bravo. As long as there is no salary cap in baseball its all about the NFL for me.

How is Philly looking these days? Any buildings left standing after Godzilla's attack yesterday?
