What an entertaining show...Fatty just had to cross bank the 7 in the side and he says...Ohhh charrrrliieeee I havent made this bank since world war 1 and then bangs it in....ultimate showman, gotta respect his gift of gab.

and then he over cuts the 7 and NOW HOWWW DIDD IIIIIIII DO THAAAAAT????? lmao

If you watched closely, you could see Mosconi's slip stroke.

Also, the 8 ball games were interesting, made the big boys stop and think.
 
Oops, I missed this. Is this a regular weekly program ??? With old matches ??? I'd love to see one (or more)!
 
it was the classic billiards marathon they had on last night it was pretty good i recorded all of them, i dont think ive ever seen a TV match where Fatty won? ive seen him loose to luther lasiter and willie but i havent seen him win? is it part of his hustle??:cool:
 
Well keep watching then. In 1985 Fats wins one a race to five in nine balls, he runs the set off while talking...At one point the camera fans the crowd and there are people crying they are laughing so hard. Willie leaves the room and comes back ten mins later and Fats is still talking...Meanwhile after the set Fats shows how much class he has by finale admitting that "Willie put's em down better than any man alive."

This is the very best pool show ever caught on tape. I am sure Allen Hopkins Sr. remembers it, it was one of his very first days on the job.

The Charlie that Fats is talking to is Charlie Ursitti.

ever so often they have them on espn classic, some pool sites (i believe inside pool?) have a pool on tv section and you can check on there.
 
You know, I have heard from severl people that Fatty couldnt shoot worth a lick. But he sure looked good on those awkward shots. Whats the deal? What speed was the Fat Man?

Those people were lying to you. From what I've heard he was a top notch one pocket and bank pool player. Not the same level as Mosconi, Lassiter or the other champions but a good player.

You have to remember you are looking at an old man in those videos of both Mosconi and Fats. You aren't seeing them in their prime.

the one percent he couldnt beat was the pros.
to be as remembered and as famous as he was ,no doubt was one of the best marketing ploys ever.
all the top players could give him weight yet hes more famous than all of them.wow hard to believe

Also, the other thing you'll notice is that Mosconi, a right-hander, was very left-eye dominant. (That is, his head was far over the right of the cue, with his left eye over the centerline of the cue -- especially noticeable in the "overhead" camera shots of the table while Willie was shooting.) Willie also has a very fluid wrist, when viewed from behind.

This is exactly what I meant you said it much better than me..So he was the worst pro, but much funnier.
 
Allan Hopkins Sr gave away the secert to pool in this show also. For $29.95, I'll send ya what the secert is. :grin:

I don't think they hated each other as much as advertised. After the match if you look closely you can see Mosconi wink at Fats before they shake hands. They hated each other the way pro wrestlers hate each other. If people think it's a grudge match there is more interest.

Even though he was full of it most of the time it's hard not to like Fats. In this video at the 15 minute mark you can see Mosconi telling some kids in the audience to stop distracting him. You would never see Fats do that.
