*** Official Mosconi Cup 2009 Thread ***

Why do players analyze so much during scotch doubles play? I can understand difficult situations, but sometimes on routine layouts they simply disrupt their rythm by talking and asking questions like where do you want the cueball?
All these guys are champions who know everything about the game. They don't need advices like 'don't do this, do that instead'. I just wonder if they would improve their doubles play by simply playing each shot as if playing for himself with no talking whatsoever?

Pool players are picky by nature, how can we not be, were ALWAYS dealing with fractions of inches...pick pick pick :)

Forget about Oscar for a minute and remember some of the boneheaded mistakes Corey, Johnny, and Dennis made. You all have Oscar under a microscope. The others made at least the same amount of errors. Every Mosconi Cup player had their first day and first day jitters. Give the kid a break. Johnnyt

TAP TAP TAP !

Remember JT, it is the bad opinions that make the good opinions better.
Like yours of course.

This forum can be brutal. Is it ignorance or arrogance? Sounds like the next AZ poll.

Ok then, who do you guys think played the best yesterday?

KK9 <-- saw @ 1/3 of the coverage while playing pool

Shane Van Boening and Niels Feijen played best of the 10 players yesterday, imo.

I think Dennis Hatch will be a great asset to the team, and I believe Team Europe lacks a player like Tony Drago or Marcus Chamat, who can bring joy and entushiasm when it's not rolling your way.

Today, when Team Europe will close the gap, Dennis Hatch will still be everywhere cheering on his team mates and helping them move forward.

After from what I saw yesterday, he can be the ultimate team player. He's almost like a huge Alex Pagulayan.

He can for sure be the difference on these two teams

I think Shane and Johnny played the best yesterday. Shane only missed one makeable ball that I saw. Johnny only missed a few position shots in the doubles match. Other than that those 2 played flawless. Hatch overcooked a few shots and got out of position for Johnny a few times but also looked good.

Corey and Oscar also played very well just maybe not as well as the other 3. At any rate, the records after day 1 for the Americans was Shane 2-0, Johnny 2-0, Dennis 2-0, Corey 2-0, and Oscar 2-1 so obviously everyone acquitted themselves very nicely.

When Hatch reads your post, I bet he comes close to tears of joy from Roy. ;) Seriously though, that's one helluva compliment.

Roy, a Q. We all talk about chemistry. Seems quite evident the attitude of this "fresher" US team is markedly better than years past.

Are you seriously worried the Euro team is missing a key chemistry ingredient (no, not beta blockers, lol). BUT! Maybe one of your players behind the scenes is emerging from that whooping yesterday and will today bring that overtness and enthusiasm. WHO MIGHT THAT BE? Is that what they need?

I really liked Varner throwing up Ralf Souquet for the Captains Choice match...There are more captains choice matches to come and now Oscar and Ralf cant be chosen again. Europe may have gotten that point but USA will likely have an edge in the later matches now. I'm hoping for a Hatch/Appleton match!

Yes, I do believe Team Europe has a player like Hatch, that will back up and support his player in the war, no matter what. All of the 5 Europeans are happy, funny and great guys to be around, but none of them are the kind of guy jumping into the ring celebrating after the last 9-ball is pocketed. Tony Drago and Marcus Chamat are that kind of players, but all the 5 Europeans are, in lack of a better word, a bit shy. That doesn't need to mean anything when they are winning, but when they are facing a happy team USA on fire they need someone to fire up their own team.

Anyway, I'm all set for a new day of torture. I do however know my own limitations of how much beating I can possibly take in one night, so I've made some plans so I can only watch the first match and the last 2 matches today.

I'm still a believer, and I know that God will not give us Europeans more than we can handle, I just wish he didn't have so much faith in our team...

the feed is PERFECT for me, and I really like the line-up for today as an European. Will be some exciting matches today, that's for sure
