*** Official Mosconi Cup 2009 Thread ***

Oscar was a good choice and this will definetely help him down the road and especially if invited to next yrs event (SVB seems more comfortable this yr). Someone technically has to be the best of the group and not the best, who really cares, Varners choice was good, combine European jet lag, crowd and Oscar being from the west coast, perfect combination for an upset. As for the comments about the break, maybe they should use the speed gun and require all players to break over a certain mph for it to be legal. As for the pocket size issues my thoughts are Matchroom sports wants a faster less saftey type game for a better production, makes allot of sense. Appreciate those supplying us the blow by blow.

The 40s shot clock would be much better for the game quality wise, but they probably have it in 30s, cos it increases tension, and they want it to be tense, as it appeals for the audience..

Considering how unique this tournament is I would love to see it played on a 5x10 with deep shelved 4" pockets. It would also be pretty cool to see it go to 10 ball as well. The only other thing I would like to see is to have it be an all around tournament representing 14.1, 9 ball, one pocket and either 8 ball or 10 ball.

enter world team cup in Hannover end of January 2010.....I will be going...not to play but to watch...I will let Mika, Marvel, Aki and Petri do the playing ;)

That is going to be exciting tournament I believe...

Why do players analyze so much during scotch doubles play? I can understand difficult situations, but sometimes on routine layouts they simply disrupt their rythm by talking and asking questions like where do you want the cueball?
All these guys are champions who know everything about the game. They don't need advices like 'don't do this, do that instead'. I just wonder if they would improve their doubles play by simply playing each shot as if playing for himself with no talking whatsoever?

Ok, I've got some sleep now, but all I can say is that I was dreaming about Hatch and Deuel clapping their hands (high five), laughing and smiling. I woke up screaming NO NO so I don't remember who they played or anything like that, but I know one thing for sure.

IF Dennis Hatch and Corey Deuel will play a double's match today, I'm betting on them!!!

everyone acts like that was an easy out.
dont know about those.

Yeah, it wasn't.

Well I guess all is relative, you can imagine Bustamante running out that rack in any situation, but if you stop imagining, and check some facts, much more easier balls were missed by much more seasoned players there.

While all of us pool purists and action junikes would love the above it would be a television rating nightmare to the highest order and would probably only take one session to effectively kill the Mosconi cup:eek::eek::eek:

I agree Don.. It's all about Entertainment. That's where the money is. They hung enough balls on the table they are playing on, no need to make it tougher.. It sure is fun to watch, wish I was there!

Is this link ( http://www.vshare.tv/live/8023/00_XTRA ) going to be good for all 4 days? I'm not real familiar with the internet tv stuff.

thanks

Meximan gets props for posting this link yesterday and making many AZBers happy.

I hope everyone sends Meximan some nice comments and rep for this link.

I just viewed the link and they had an advertisement from Southern Comfort and the ad was all about NEW ORLEANS. With all of the television and movie production going on around New Orleans, it would be great if they decided to put a little money into pool, maybe a BIG tournament at Harrah's Casino here in New Orleans. Greg, are you listening?

If you can't lose hill-hill to Ralf and get respect, than there is nothing in the world that will get you respect. Oscar had to play more than anyone yesterday and he's a fighter.

Forget about Oscar for a minute and remember some of the boneheaded mistakes Corey, Johnny, and Dennis made. You all have Oscar under a microscope. The others made at least the same amount of errors. Every Mosconi Cup player had their first day and first day jitters. Give the kid a break. Johnnyt

Ok then, who do you guys think played the best yesterday?

KK9 <-- saw @ 1/3 of the coverage while playing pool
