What do you like better - Gold Crown III or Diamond Pro-Am???

Ed,

You know my feelings on the matter...diamonds....

I'll talk to you about it later this week when i am in...

Hey Ray how would you know???

I can't believe RKC isn't pointing out the maintenance difference.

1. The ProAm can be levelled with 2 wrenches. Boom your done
a. GC must be raised and the legs turned

2. The ProAm slate can be leveled without ANY breakdown
a. The GC must be partially disassembled.

3. The 9ft ProAm has Artemis cushions unlike it's little brother the 7ft ProAm
The Artemis cushions bank true and consistent.

I would always prefer to play on a diamond because you "get beat by the equipment" rarely.

RKC can right a book on this subject.

Ray

I thought there were only eight foot tables in Texas....

Just playin with you...

Funny, I just delivered some more 9ft Diamond ProAm's to another private pool room in NJ that didn't even think about putting in GC's:rolleyes: I wonder how the gambling there will do...in the NJ climate:grin:

I also in the same trip delivered a 9ft Diamond ProAm to Allen Hopkins for use at his home....and yes he paid for the table...even when he could have gotten a GC5 for free...and he ALSO lives in NJ....but hey, maybe Allen forgot how to play pool and just wanted a Diamond just encase he started remembering how to play again:grin:

My last 2 posts, what does that tell you folks???

Glen

Well, you said in this thread and the other about corey and Raj that you put Diamond tables in Allens and Coreys houses. Those guys MUST play well on a
Diamond. Because every pro tournament is on a Diamond. That does not mean that they like the way it plays (and I'm not implying that they don't like the way it plays). Current tournament pro pool is on Diamonds and it would be foolish for a touring pro not to have a diamond to practice on.

If you read through the other thread, half the responders had a big problem with Diamond rails. The diamond is a very nice table, but the rails are a problem for lots of players. That fact can simply not be denied, no matter how well the rest of the table is built, or how mechanic friendly it is.

Rails...... schmails I have played on hundreds of Gold crowns and some play great most of em just don't do it for me. Not much will get me to change my avatar:rolleyes::grin: but Ray and Glen inspire me. Seriously after getting my Diamond with the RKC setup there was no looking back.

Jim grins like a chicken picking bugs off a wire brush everytime he walks into his man cave.

Same here Cuebuddy. Ray is a good friend and a good salesman. Glenn has skills without peer.

Definitely go with the Diamond Pro Am. I bought one and put it in my house and could not be happier with the way it plays. I feel Diamonds are hands down the best table in the world. They are the most consistent and do not have to have shimmed pockets to play well like a GC. Also, Diamonds have become the table almost all big tournaments are played on because they can be set up and tore down so much quicker than the GC. For that reason your customers can practice on the same equipment they most likely will be competing on when they travel to major tournaments.

Diamonds

Diamonds are a girls best friend, and whatever the girls like the guys like. Personally speaking, Diamonds are a far superior table at this particular time...

Hold the boat.
Are we going to a different phase from *make my GC play like a Diamond to *make my Diamond play like a GC?
Just carry some superspeeds in the cobramobile to replace the artemis cushions & make everybody happy.

That would make me happy!

The thing is, the rails are the only real complaint about the Diamond by PLAYERS. GC's have lots more complaints. I know the rails on Diamonds are much more expensive, and supposed to be more consistent throughout their lifespan. I just don't understand why Diamond couldn't have picked a rail material that played like everyone has known for the past 50 plus years.

Diamond did advance the table quite a bit. They raised the bar, and Brunswick responded with the flush pockets in the GC4 model, and the "factory extended rails" for tighter pockets without shims in the GC5 model. These are just the changes that the average player can see. I know from what Glen has posted, the guts of the Diamond table are a lot better than the GC's.

But no matter how much better the Diamond table may be in all respects, there is still a huge player base that will not like the way they play because of the way the cueball bounces off the rails.

Both are great tables that have their own characteristics in the way they play. I think it is a matter of taste as to which a person would prefer. But unless you have played on a properly set up Gold Crown you are not really in a position to make a comparison. I'm sure now everyone will claim they have played on a proper GC but I doubt it since the good ones are probably a small number in comparison to all the ones out there that have been hacked on and had the snot shimmed out of them. And many of those good ones are in private hands, not in public rooms.

I prefer a well set up GC. But Diamonds are a great table and I enjoy playing on them. I'm not saying the GC is "better", only that I prefer them.

... .

That question is best directed to the folks at Diamond as to why they use Artemis on their 9' tables vs. the
standard cushions they buy and put on the smaller table sizes.

On Bwick it's probably safe to say that the QC on current day superspeeds is not what it was when
they made their own cushions back in the day.

Thank you all for your great insight and feedback. I have heard both good and bad about both models before I posted the thread and they have been confirmed on here. I will always keep my Gold Crown 1's that are currently here at The Sandcastle. I am now just waiting to see what offers I get from Brunswick. If they are comprable to what Diamond offers, perhaps GC5's will be ordered. I can't afford a full room of either model to be bought outright but a lease w/ buyout is possible. That is why I was considering used GC3's. I'm leaning more towards a room full of new tables as opposed to used ones.

I hope you do go with the Diamonds. You cant find Diamonds in the northeast. If you get them we will come.

Hello everyone. I am looking to replace all the Brunswick Medalists in my pool room. I'm trying to decide what to go with. I am limited in my budget as to what I can get or I'd get all Gold Crown V's hands down.

I have the opportunity to pick up some Gold Crown III's but I could also turn my room into the only Diamond Table room in the area. Diamond offers a good deal on the Pro-Am one piece slate model.

All your suggestions or warnings are welcomed.

Thank You!

IMO, Diamonds are the wave of the future.
