Happy Trails to Tony Chohan...

I, too, hope that Tony perserveres & comes out better for it. Tony is good people, and it sucks when bad things happen to good people.

...until we meet again. :)

It is 3 days before Christmas, and today Tony Chohan will enter his incarceration for a period of 7 years.

Please don't post on this thread if you want to bash Tony, the crime he was convicted of, or anything to do with that topic. I make this post to say goodbye to a friend.

Though my boyfriend has always been quite close to Tony, they have become even closer in recent times, more so than when he lived in Califorinia. They speak on the phone several times a day, sharing laughs, playing poker online, and talking about life in general.

We both are a little upset today after saying our goodbyes, knowing that he is going away for such a long while. It is especially hard to swallow duing the holiday season. In fact, it's difficult to hold back our tears, but as Tony adjusts, we shall too. Regardless of what Tony has been convicted of, we still love him as our friend, and it hurts to see him have to go through this.

I pray for Tony to make it through this awful time in his life, and I hope he comes back a stronger man.

Do you know if he is doing Federal time or is in a state prison? BIG difference! On Fed time, the most you can get off for good behavior is 15%. In most state prisons you have a shot to get out (on parole) after serving one third to one half of your sentence. UNLESS you are sentenced to something like 7-10 years. Then you usually have to serve the minimum.

I guess I know too many guys who got locked up. That's how I learned all this. :sorry:

I play on the same pool hall where Tony hangs out and it is awesome seeing him play and you can learn so much from his game.
I will say a prayer for him as well. He is a good kid and I hope that he can get his time shortened up as much as possible.

three days before christmas. that sucks. has he been in custody the whole time or has be been free on bond? if he has been free why couldn't they wait another few days. i am for the motto if you do the crime yo do the time but his crime was not murder, i don't see the pressing need to start his sentence three days before christmas if he hasn't been in custody the whole time.

I knew Tony from Family Billiards in SF. Hope he gets out sooner than his full sentence. He's such a great player and a nice guy.

Bummer :(

I wish him the best and think he will be okay, hopefully he does not get institutionalized and comes out a better man. I think that he will be out in less then 7 years, I put the under at 5 1/2. Good luck Tony and God Bless you and yours.

Lenny,

I'll take the under. With the state economies in bad shape and gonna get a lot worse in the next few years one of the savings is dumping nonviolent felons back on the street. I read about a state yesterday cutting time served to as little as 15% of the sentence. Ridiculous in my opinion but it could work nicely in Tony's favor.

I think it will be less Hu for sure, they do need to stop making the US a prison planet, its sickening to be honest. We have millions of people locked up for non violent crimes, many for marijuana which has been proven to not be any more harmful then cigarettes or booze. I am not a pot smoker, I like my booze but even a lush like me can say alcohol is more damaging. The fight against marijuana is a waste of OUR money and does not make much sense.

I absolutely can't imagine how Tony must feel and I wish him the quickest of the quick paroles.

Some people that have Facebook accounts have been asked, specially the ones that know Tony, to write a letter to the judge saying how nice Tony is and that basically he was caught with the wrong people, in the wrong place at the wrong time of his life.
I was asked where do I play out of... I play at Hard Times in Sacramento and Tony was a frequent flyer there.

I saw that on FB but it was already too late. He should of really hit everybody (especially pool players) on FB with PM's in order to get enough letters in on time. Overall i dont think it would've matter much but you never know...

Dang...this is the first I have heard of this. I knew Tony pretty well about 5 years ago. I wish him the best and hope he comes out better, not worse.

I'd also like to know where he is. Maybe his prison address can be posted on here. In prison getting mail is like getting a present. The more people that write to him, the faster his time will go by. I'd like to send him some pool mags if they allow it.

He was sentenced for 7 years in State prison (not Federal).

Oh well, Time wise thats a break....Feds are 85 % time served but I would think state wise, first offense and if on good behavior it would be shortened by a wide margine...State jails however are more difficult living wise but if he keeps to his own he should be alright....

Best wishes and keep your head up.....Good luck
