Hi,
I was out last weekend with friends. We were playing teams, no action, and just having fun. Out of the blue, this guy rolls up and wants to play me for 1k. I had clocked him earlier that night and realized he had a game. Now, the dude was so drunk that he could not stand in one place. I wanted his cash but knew there would be trouble when I won. I told him that I had no money and wished him a good evening. 5 minutes later he's back with the same deal but when I refuse his game he says that he's going to kill me. My friend tried to talk him down and the bar ended up kicking him out. Now imagine what would have happened if I had cleaned his pockets.

Wrong. I run 5 miles a day and hit the gym 3 or 4 days a week and I've been jumped by thugs and ended up in the emergency room getting a cut over my eye glued shut. It had nothing to do with pool, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm lucky they didn't use a weapon or I'd probably be dead.
I did fight back enough to convince them to run away, but you are kidding yourself if you think people won't **** with you just because you look like you can handle yourself. Add alcohol or money to the equation and it multiplies the danger.
There was a case locally where a guy killed another guy outside a bar with one sucker punch. The attacker was a foot shorter and 130lb lighter than the guy he killed.

That's exactly what I meant Mully. The 9-1-1 call sounds a little like this.
"I am at XYZ Pool Hall and someone is being hurt or someone has a gun, whatever you feel like saying on your Oscar performance. "
Now you start a BS argument during the game you are playing to stall. When the cops get there, first thing is take back your end of the post money. Second thing is to get in your car and leave. Third thing make sure you are not being followed. You just made it home with all the money and not a scratch on you.
Of course it is a crime to report a crime when there is none. If you make the call from your cell phone-they will find you if they want to.

If you move good enough you won't have any problems, simple as that.....

When in an unfamilar place, scope it out....find a seemingly important or big guy whatever to offer a drink to...POINT IS TO MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN AS CORDIAL & NICE
Always look unassuming, do not walk around like you are the next sliced bread. Friendly but shy....you do not want to let the king bulls smell a possible breach of territory...those bulls like to SHOW THEIR STUFF, when they feel undermined or outshined....never outshine the bull.
Its a good idea to have a beer in hand through out the evening, as many will think something is up if your not drinking and trying to lay for $$$....you can just sip it, throw it away b/f its half way done and get another...play the part, sober players shooting for $$ against bar drunks are not well looked upon. Just let them see you drinking...all they gotta do is think that.
NO WOOFING IN A BAR, unless your very familiar with everyone, and your back is safe. You WOOF AT POOL PLAYERS. People in a bar are DRINKERS/FIGHTERS and POOL BANGERS....they will punch you in the teeth for woofing as they think it means you want to dance outside.
Don't run out difficult racks, or try to look like effren. Its better to play some simple safes, especially when you can leave the a shot that happens to make them jack up and take a long really thin cut.....or always leave the CB on the rails for them. Playing to make the other guy miss and leave you simple, OPEN, EASY runs is what you want. It will make it look, and make them think that you just got LUCKY, that THEY MESSED UP...and thats the reason you won...b/c it was their fault. I've found from running through many places like this, that was the key to keeping them coming back and letting you leave. I never won anything in those places, they gave it to me...at least thats what was running around in their head.
And always play by their rules, don't ask if they play 3foul, if its 8 ball then just ask if its gentlemans 8 call all shots? if its not they will tell you. But that question makes you look like just another bar pool player, not some pool shark.
Always play 8 ball as thats the norm, and you want to be in the norm. If they play 9 ball or others are playing then thats ok.... But do not lead with 9 ball proposition, 8 ball is the bar game that everyone and their mother play.
Thats all i feel like typing for now. The hints i gave are some of the things i used when playing hole in the wall redneck places....many of them very tough and dangerous spots to be....and this slick cajun never had a lick of trouble....don't play the game, PLAY THE GAME!

You can avoid a lot of this by playing like players who understand that they are playing another skilled player. When everything is on the up and up, there is rarely problems. If your looking to hustle people in a strange bar, well, your on your own. That's just part of the game and you know that going into it.

Unfortunately the little guy is doing a few years behind bars and if he keeps taking swings at people twice his size I've got a feeling he won't like it.
I stayed out of bars and I was very careful who I gambled with. It worked 99% of the time. I had a few minor scrapes. People usually rush to break things up in the room.
I also brought some help with me, when I was a young boy, robbing grown men. Some of them, resented me.

P.S. Joey, You wouldn't give me 9-6 and the breaks, so I had to forgo DCC this year, as I could not afford it.
I have a 229 and tried to conceal carry it, was just too big....
Now the KelTec P3AT or G27 hides pretty well.. :grin:
I think Jay nailed it - show no fear and stand your ground. I've gambled a lot, for varying amounts in new places that I didn't know anyone. One thing I've learned - don't bet in bars. LOL
