Old Billiard Photograph

I recognize that photograph. It was taken at the poolroom were I play, a couple of weeks ago. The guy on the left is "Big Peetie" Johnson. The guy on the right is "Little Peetie" Johnson. And, the guy in the middle in the derby hat is "Intermedie Peetie" Johnson. Personal friends of mine.

No, no, no. I think you're thinking of THIS photograph.

Erwin Rudolph on the left and Ralph Greenleaf on the right. Not sure about the guy in the middle. Looks like a young Irving Crane but I'm not sure. Although the more I think about it, it is possible. He was only about 12-15 years younger than Greenleaf.

I have this same photo ...I don't know who the guys are but enjoy photos from the 1800's..... I have purchased several pics from www.newdeco.com then click on BILLIARD PHOTOS......

Looks like a lot of those are just stills from movies. Is it possible this company just bought the DVD's and captured images and rendered in Black and White and are making a mint off them? Wonder if the studios are aware of this. Wonder if they struck a deal with them.

Hmmmm...

1800's

You can always tell the tables were made in the 1800's by the angle on the side of the table. Tables made in the 1800's had sides shaped by about a 30 degree angle. In the 1900s the sides came down perpendicular to the floor.

Things never change....

bridge location, leg shims, garbage on the floor, some nit with no cue standing over the table.

I love how they spread the lights by anchoring and pulling them towards the outside walls with a cable.

Cue racks are great and it looks like ball boxes are in play. I believe instead of bringing them to the houseman in trays, they probably left them at the table or back in the wall mounted ball box. Then one could assume the dishonesty factor with paying for time, led to the invention of the ball tray....

Things never change....

Notice also the chalk holders hanging from the ceiling by a string! I remember watching old footage of W.C. Fields playing, and he occassionally standing up, grabbing the chalk hanging from the ceiling, chalking his cue while talking to someone nearby (out of the side of his mouth in that inimitable W.C. Fields style), and then letting the thing go, swinging to and fro, while he bends down for the next shot.

Where can I find old footage and photographs like this? Love this stuff!

From the way they are holding the cues, I think it's Larry, Moe and Curly... I would be shocked if these guys were players.

if you don't know who greenleaf was then how can we expect that the raffle you speak of in your sig is not for a walmart balabushka imitation !
