Congrats to Vivian Villareal for her win on the Fast Eddie 9-ball tour against 60 men. Charlie Bryant was one of them. With the WPBA only having two stops so far this year we are going to see a lot of the top women playing in open events. A good thing for pool IMO. Johnnyt

I think it's good for pool too...

...but I thought you guys might get a kick out of hearing what became of the first guy who ever lost to Jean Balukas in a sanctioned competition. He almost immediately joined the ministry! (He was a fairly accomplished African-American player from upstate NY named Earl Herring.) I can't state with certainty that this was direct cause-and-effect, but I can tell you that he did NOT like losing to her at all. As his peers said for the record, "Man, that dude was DEPRESSED." He is back now and seems a happy man. Still shoots great.

I have seen VV play in person before and let me tell you when she is in traction she is a monster. She also has the most accurate two stroke shot I've ever seen. Oh and she breaks the balls as hard as any man I know.

The TEXAS TORNADO!!!

Way to go Viv!

She is a great player and watching her play is always sheer enjoyment. Terrific to see her win one.

I guess she forgot to read the memo that says women can't compete against the guys. Another female who is in frequent noncompliance with this rule is Karen Corr. One day the pool police will catch up with them.;)

Congrats

I personally want to congratulate Vivian.

And I am sure our whole staff agrees with me.

I love to see women 'mixing' it up with men. There will be a time (hopefully in the not to distant future) when this kind of thing will happen a lot more often.

Good for her. She doesn't always have that top gear she would need to survive against men, but she has enough talent and heart to give them all they can handle when she's having a good day.

As time goes on, I really feel that some ladies are going to make some noise on the mens tour. If a 16 year old chinese gal can run a 5 or 6 pack in the ladies finals, who know what another 10-20 years will bring, especially from Asia.

Always been a big fan of Viv ever since I was front row center watching her play in the finals against Robin Dodson at the 93 Kasson Classic in Chicago.
What a show she put on there and she was gracious enough to stick around and sign everything from the chalk she was using to the kitchen sink, lol.

BIEN HECHO VIVIAN, HECHALE GANAS.
