Does a Forum Member's posts irritate you?

If so, you can choose to ignore that particular member's posts.

There's a feature in the User CP (Control Panel) that allows you to put any AZB member on your PERSONAL ignore list.

In the upper left hand corner of this screen click on User CP and then go down to the lower left hand side of your screen and click on Edit Ignore List. That will bring you to another screen where you may type in the irritant's screen name (EXACTLY AS IT APPEARS IN THEIR POSTS) and from then on you won't see their posts unless someone replies to their post and leaves the original irritant's post in their reply.

It's not perfect but it could save some flaming, some piling-on and other vigilante whining.

This post isn't meant to silence anyone or to stifle crticism but is merely a solution to a problem that seems to grate on some members' nerves.

I use the ignore feature and it has saved me from being in a flame war more than once.

I definitely use it.. There are only a few posters that actually drive me nuts..
I'm definitely not alone on one in particular... No need to mention names as he is probably the most ignored poster on this forum.

I was talking to someone who participates in another forum with different software. That forum has a "Siberia" mode in which the Forum Idiots are not exactly banned. They can still post all they want. The catch is that they are the only ones who see their posts. The people in Civilization are no longer bothered by them. They happily exchange their idiocies amongst themselves and are only mildly annoyed that no sane person ever responds to their posts.

The VBulletin folks may want to look into this.

I'm going to report your post. There has to be a button somewhere on here to report a post like yours to the moderators or administrator.

I dont know why any of you guys would put someone on the the ignore list.
Maybe they act stupid on purpose so you guys feel smarter...

good but not perfect

How about a system that will not allow a particular forum member to post on your threads?

I really like the "Siberia" mode.

With your system I would spend too much time choosing who I don't want posting in my thread. :grin-square:

So that is why you never reply to any of my posts!!!!!

Joey, or anyone else for that matter, I have been here since November and although I've seen a few goofy posts show up (I of course include some of mine), I don't think I've seen one that I would want to censure or exile.
There have been bunches of silly threads here, no doubt about it, complete with an equal number of silly replies. There have also been redundant threads show up, answered with many of the same old replies. But, having said that, aren't all those things part of the nature of the forum beast?
I may be missing the point here, but it is my humble opinion that forums are for the free exchange of ideas and should therefore be restricted as little as possible.

1.the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
2.Literature.
a.a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
b.(esp. in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.

i use it only for people who have screwed others in buying or selling here. i don't want to do any business with them, so if they're on my ignore list, it just won't happen.

Bob

I was a moderator on a VBulletin Forum dealing with a technical subject. VBulletin offers that very same HACK and I have seen it work. The problem comes when the Poster doesn't get any replies to posts they make. Many People log off and before they log back in, they end up seeing what is happening.

A better HACK for dealing with undesirable Posts by Certain members, is the Moderator approval Hack before their post is visible to the general membership of the forum. This can be done either with or without notification to the poster.

Ktown, you aren't trying to insinuate that CCC is the one that most people ignore on here are you?!!!!

perhaps, a midway point before Siberia...

For those who constantly flame & irritate maybe as a warning of sorts and before being banished forever to Siberia, maybe they can be sent to a less final destination like, say Newark, New Jersey, where if they act contrite and promise to be good they might get another chance to come back to sunny AZ.

Where's you say that ignore button is? :grin-square:
