I agree. What I dont understand is the logic behind you deleting some posts in this thread and leaving others. I made a post trying to calm things down, which was in no way out of order - its gone. Would be nice to know why.

So are several others of the last posts here. If you want to use your censorship rights, delete the whole thread.
 
I am trying to defuse the situation. If I delete an "out of line" post and someone replies with the post quoted, then I kind of have to delete that message too.

If your message was trying to calm the storm, and I delete the storm then does it really make sense to leave the message and make people wonder what it was all about.

I love how quick people are to throw "censorship" around. One of the biggest rules is that we don't attack other users. That rule was broken and I deleted the message where it was broken. Call it censorship if that makes you feel good, but it is what it is. I have said many times that this forum will never turn into what rsb and playpool.com turned into. And I mean it.

Mike you have a thread with derogatory stuff about handicapped people, lots of dirty laundry, threats of violence, flat out name calling...etc. My point is this thread has been out of hand a long long time, no point in cleaning it up.

I say either delete the thing or let this be the boxing ring with the father and son head gear and let people continue to toss shots at each other in an open forum. No one has been harmed so far, maybe a couple egos bruised. Selective censorship is definitely not the way to go...I say delete it or let it go wherever it goes!!!!
 
If a thread has no value or the majority of it has no value, then I will delete the entire thread instead of just trying to cut out the poison. I really thought there was some decent stuff in this thread, so I would prefer to try to leave it.

Believe me, it is a lot easier to just remove the entire thread. Was hoping that wouldn't be necessary.

Can you send me links to the other threads that you mention?

i think that it's a shame to delete those posts. just locking the thread would have been better. IMHO...
 
This forum is about 14.1 - and the people that play it - not arguing. This forum has never needed moderation before - at all. By conducting ourselves as mature adults that share a common desire for 14.1 knowledge, we have always done a very good job of policing ourselves - until now.

Don started this thread to recognize one of the world's greatest players.Too bad it turned into this.

IMO, Mike should delete every post, with the exception of Williebetmore's -then lock the thread.
 
I'm sorry John and readers

I am truly sorry for any threats that I made, I have really been on edge and am going through some sort of mid-life deal right now (looking for work.) I was very dissapointed in John's behaivor at the last TAR during the One Pocket, but that gives me no right to say some of the things I have said. I did not feel his last win against me was a genuine victory as he did say some things to me that were indeed out of line when I was close to winning the 2nd TAR. I wanted to try and provoke him to play with a ref and it did get nasty, I do feel he likes to irritate his opponent and uses that as an arsenal to try and win.

I just kinda lost it when I saw my mug shot again, this is my public apology and I will send John a pm also. Again I apologize to the readers of this forum for putting them through this crap, I just wanted to settle a score and now I realize how much of a zero we have both looked like (myself more than John) through all of this.

Thanks for the apology; I've been feeling badly about how the thread turned out; it was not my intention.

I have a friend who is a prominent professional player who "lurks" here; they have on several occasions asked me if they should post here. My advice has always been, "NO...unless you have skin thicker than a rhinoceros."

I have always admired both you and John for continuing to post here (much to the delight of the true pool fanatics here) despite the almost inevitable negativity surrounding ALL threads involving a pro. It is somewhat unusual to have the pro's picking at each other, but you can see that even that type of interchange is popular among the forum members. It is entertaining for all except the ones personally attacked....that's life I guess.

I wish I could remember the thread where I posted my admiration for your approach to pool. You and I had a long discussion late one night at the Maryland tournament about pool - I had asked a simple, "how did you get good at pool?" question; and you favored me with an hour or two of one of the greatest stories on learning pool that I have ever heard. Anyone hearing that story will know that you have a great love for the game; and could not help but admire your fortitude in developing such great skill over such formidable obstacles.

Thanks for your participation on the forum; and I hope it will continue in a positive vein.

It's hard to believe that the last 3 pages of posts were worse than the first 11. After the first 11 pages of posts, something in the last 3 pages were so offensive and explosive that they had to be deleted, uh... yeah right! I agree with sausage, either lock the damn thing or delete all posts.

You were a man to say what you just did. I hope you post more. I know you've always been a fierce competitor and losing is a b1tch, regardless of what you think the reasons are.

You're still one of the top American players. I hope you post more information and insight. Ignore the negative and focus on the positive.

TAR will pay airfare and four days hotel for both players. At the conclusion of the match each player will receive $1000 by check. We will provide a Diamond Pro/Am with Simonis 860 Tour Blue cloth and Aramith Super Pro TV Balls with the measle cue ball. We will provide a referee, my choice is Bill Stock the head referee of the BCAPL. Bill is a great ref, will be fair and takes no BS.

The game will be the same match as the previous Action Challenges. We have no interest in filming guys playing in a room by themselves. Both players camps will have to post a deposit at least 30 days out from the proposed match date. If a venue wants to host this match we can discuss the fee and conditions for that. Otherwise we do it in Las Vegas or Hard Times in L.A.

Deposit on the match entry fee of $10,000 must be posted before any work goes into promotion or planning. The playing arena will be lit for video production and the players will wear wireless mics.

If a player physically threatens or harms the other player he will forfeit his entire match entry fee and appearance fee. That entry will be forfeited to TAR. The other player will receive his entry fee back but not the appearance fee. The reason for this structure is to prevent a player who is behind from en-citing his opponent into a physical act in order to stop the match and gain any money from the other player.

If a player has to say something he will say it to the ref. There is no need for the players to talk to each other during the match. If one or both players show a pattern of disruptive behavior they will be warned. If the pattern continues a fine of $500 will be assessed and taken out of the appearance fee. If it does not stop there another fine $500 will be levied. The third strike on the same player will be the same penalty as stated above for a physical act.

In short there will be no BS allowed.

This is our offer and it is the only one we will make. I wish it didnt have to be so harsh as far as penalties for misconduct but frankly I want to see two champions play a great set not some Jerry Springer episode.

If someone else wants to offer the guys more I wish them the best of luck.

Both guys have my number if you want to do this just say the word.

i will post with jcin 2 dimes [at a time JCIN requests, to everybody's satisfaction]; 1 dime for each player just for showing up and he [JCIN] carries out the rest as JCIN stated above.

the action will happen [if okay with fats, at fats house; if not another place in vegas that i accept, but i trust fats most]

the game is 14.1 and ONLY 14.1...
it will be to 1,000 [but if agreed, to 1,500 if agreed to beforehand by all parties, Danny, John and JCIN agree, and fats too if at his estate]

and i just want to add:
Danny, please be more kind to John;
John, please be more kind to Danny...

all i can say is;

LETS PLAY POOL BOYS... [and enjoy it]

i am really not good with words [i am more emotional than vocally thoughtful], i get choked up and angry, and lose sensibility for reason far too quickly...

but, maybe if you could send mike and dave a more reasoned request than i am capable of, it will hit home with them

besides, i have taxed dave far to much in the past years, and frankly, i am afraid of hurting his trust in me...

that's the way it is for me and should be, as far i as i concerned...
