boys dressing badly

this is so unimportant? but kind of interesting to me?

is there any sport other than pool -- individual or team -- where the players dress so slovenly? i'm not talking about a nite out with your buds! but a competition which will be streamed or even televised?

for a sport which is losing 'share of attention' generation-by-generation, maybe the silly little things can make a difference?

girls -- i'm not talking about you! you dress comfortably and smartly!

but, a glance at any other sport -- well, let's admit bowling shirts are not exactly fashion-forward, and i'm not sure poker is really a sport? -- but other sports have uniforms or dress codes or at least a basement-level sense of style?

if pool ever again gains some significant tv exposure ... well, disney is as ruthless as goldman. disney owns abc which is losing share, shedding people, running scared. and abc owns 80% of the espn family, which is smartly profitable.

but, for all its frat boy casualness, espn has the buttoned-down corporate culture looming over it.

but, maybe i'm all wrong?

or, as i prefer to believe, the pool community is so fortunate that i'm so generous in sharing my thoughts!

cheers!

Oh yes fashion is the answer. Im gonna go buy me a three piece 2moro and play a set for the rent money. You fashion police kill me. Personnally i like the live streams way better than espn. Your not one of those who wears thier pajamas to walmart are you?

I wear worn out jeans with a hole in my left knee. Why you might ask.
Because I'm down on my knee racking more than I'm cracking.
when that happens to change, then my attire will as well.

Sunny, it gets HOT down south this time of year...people there dress accordingly.

Pool uniforms. Thats what we need.

I vote for this one:

LOL! Yeah well i meant those ugly checkered pj pants and fuzzy house shoes. Now if she wants to wear a lacy teddy or something that works for me.

Hey some of those ugly checkered pj pants that have been washed 6million times and are soft as can be....slung low on the hips...

i mean do i really need to say more?

but lets get back to the real topic....lol..

Bowling shirts are cool

Frankly, my dear , I don't give a damn!--- Can you imagine dating
a girl named ," Frankly?"
Anyway, pool guys do sorta have a uniform, at least in the sun-belt . I don't know about the Great Northwest or Canada, ehh? Here it is:
Two T-shirts, size XX Large ( gotta layer, air- conditioning can be brutal) Shorts of at least Bermuda short length ( no plaids please), Tennis shoes ( tieing optional) or flip-flops, neither with socks. If your on a date , leather sandals are more appropriate. If you haven't showered that day a baseball type cap should be worn to cover pillow hair ( if you even slept the night before ) The cap bill should be worn fully forward or fully backward, never at an angle.
There are ,of course, modifications in style for geographical differences but this is a basic , acceptable, pool guy outfit. Limit accessorizing. Keep it simple and stylish.:yeah:

I truly, honestly am not trying to offend anyone, but I must say this. Not one single thing in that entire post can be considered a coherent thought. It looks as if you were letting your thoughts run through your mind and straight onto your keyboard. Maybe do a proof read next time before hitting that submit button.

What was the overall theme of this thread? You're wondering why pool players dress poorly? Pool players are just like anyone else. They're normal people. It just so happens that the ones we know are on TV and/or the internet, so they're subject to this expectation that they have to be "presentable." I for one know that when I am not comfortable, I don't play well. Therefore, I dress comfortably when I play. I assume the same goes for most players.

> Since when is it ok to wear flip flops to a tournament? All you need is an Ed Hardy shirt then.......:embarrassed2: Tommy D.

I dress pretty well most of the time. I think its a nice touch to look good whiel your playing. Nice collared shirt (not a polo tee

) but a dress shirt and a nice pair of lucky (or other top brands) jeans with a good pair of shoes and not a beat up pair of sneakers.

I think when you look good it makes you feel good about yourself and boost your confidence and does increase your play. This works for me but ive seen a lot of GREAT players wearing sweat pants and a faded pink flyod shirt torture people

IMHO if its a big tournament i think players should dress the part. Maybe have a little bit more pride towards the game in a sense but to each their own.

The thing that gets me is that when someone mentions dressing better lots and lots of people take it too far and scream about wearing suits and ties to play pool. No one is saying you should dress up, what we're saying is that you shouldn't dress down. Face it, there are some real pigs in pool. Jeans hanging off their ass, oversized shirts, flip flops, ball caps turned sideways etc... What the hell is wrong with wearing a clean pair of jeans that fit correctly, a shirt that fits correctly....and isn't stained with something or have some crude slogan on it, and taking your damn hat off when you're inside? Is it too much to ask pool players to at least be presentable during a match? I saw a match from the DCC on an Accu-Stats DVD and one of the guys, a well known major pro player, was wearing filthy jeans, an open flannel shirt that looked like it had been slept in for 2 days and a grungy t-shirt underneath it. Not to mention it looked like he hadn't even combed his hair that morning. For God's sake. No wonder pool doesn't have a better image. If I was a tournament director and a player walked in looking like that he'd be turned away at the door.

On ESPN and most of the major tournament footage I've seen on youtube, they dress fine. In tar matches the players seem well dressed.

For live streams they dress casually, comfortably, because they're usually going to their local pool hall to shoot, and that pool hall happens to have live streaming capability. Not their fault if someone decides to stick a camera on them. I don't expect them to change their day-to-day clothing for the sake of pool's image.

On the one hand I'd like to see pool do better on the business side... get more profit and sponsors and TV coverage, and dressing better would help that.

On the other hand, I know I shoot my best when I'm comfortable. Windpants and T-shirt are great to shoot in. I don't want to feel a button down cuff tighten up every time I extend my bridge hand or feel a tucked in shirt tug across my neck when I lean over the table. I want my mind on the game only. ...And some part of me kind of resents when anyone tells me how I should dress, even though I'm past my teenage years and wore a uniform for a long time.

Check out the dress code for the Hollywood Billiards tournament the latter part of May. To be found in the Tournament section and it includes spectators!

I remember some tuxedo tournaments when I was younger. I could never pull it off. I need to be comfortable.

I played in some different shoes a week or so a go and I couldn't make a ball. Since then I've had people tell me that they will play me only if I'm wearing those shoes. I'm throwing them away.
