I think it is an absolute shame for pool that Alex quit and plays only poker now. He has the best personality, he is great for TV, and I think he has more heart than anyone in the world. I also think he is in the top 5 best players in the world when he is playing.

Chime in here if you think Alex is one of the best things to ever happen to pool, and that you'd like to see him back playing!

Either way, I wish the best to him, and whatever path he chooses in life. He can be great at anything he wants to be great at.

Alex

I agree. Alex is a great Pool personality and a great player. He has always been an inspiration to me because I am not too tall myself. His execution is flawless. I miss not seeing his name on tournament lists.

Come on Alex, start playing again, we all miss you!!!

The bottom line is that Alex has a family that he needs to take care of and he has to do what is right for them first. There really isn't a lot of pool money out there, so a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Either way, he has my support. No matter what he's doing, he's always the happiest and luckiest guy in the room and he is a winner more than he's not. That's a great attribute for pool, poker, or life.

The most talented and most colorful pool player on the planet. Bar none. He just caught the poker bug like so many others. If the money was there, he would return to pool I'm sure.

Alex is playing poker, but that's not his primary focus at the moment. He's actually over in the Philippines raising and fighting cocks. From what I've been told, it's put Alex into some serious debt. I won't disclose how much he's down, but if things keep up, he may have no choice but to return to the pool world.

*hopes he won't get into too much trouble for leaking this info*

He'll go wherever he can make the most money. In general, pool is a nowhere occupation. Be happy for players when they leave this unforgiving game.

You didn't leak it Nathan. I mentioned his new addiction a couple of months ago when I returned from my last trip to the PI. Alex is a GAMBLER! And he will find something to bet on, whatever it is. Sad to say it will probably keep him broke forever. At least until he learns to manage his money and himself. He's had millions go through his hands already, and none of it stuck.

Thanks Jay. Wych told me in Vegas over breakfast one day, but never requested that I keep quiet about it. As such, I figured it was safe to say. Glad to hear confirmation that he won't ***** at me for it. :p

Alex is awesome

I hope Alex comes back to pool but, if you think about it what else does he have to accomplish in the pool world? He's a world champion, a US open Champion, World Pool Masters champion, and I'm sure he has numerous other titles to his credit and he can't be over 35 years old.

It would be nice if he would come back to pool cause I know I enjoyed watching him play but he has to do whats best for his family even if it's cock-fighting....:D

Alex is one of my favorite players, but if he's not taking care of his family I have little respect for him. Johnnyt

When I was thinking of how to better televise billiards and increase the popularity/money Alex came to mind. He was the first person that came to mind for a billiards reality show. My idea was to have him hit the road making money games on the way to the US Open.

I always love seeing Alex, on and off the table. He is a joy to be around! :)

There's nothing better than hearing the Lion roar. I was elated when he won the WPC. He's won the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. He's won just about everything that's out there.

He has a unique personality, one that is charismatic and fun, fun, fun!

Sad

I don't know Alex personally, but I've been around him a few times and was always impressed with his cheerfulness, energy, and spirit. I knew he was not good with managing his money, but didn't know the information mentioned by Nathan and Jay in this thread; a sad situation indeed. I suspect we'll see the Killer Pixie at the pool table before too long.

The Lion

I'd like to see him on tv with Dwan and Ivey.
He's got the parts and the smarts.
...and he could make Helmuth even more enteraining...
..then bring a few million back to the pool world

I think he's the best money player on the planet...
...if they all bet their own

I've always liked little Alex, hes animated and funny along with being a heck of a player. Hes great to watch. Does Alex still call Canada home, anyone know? Its sad to hear what Jay said, that millions have slipped thru his hands and none of it stuck.

Very, Very few pro pool players save any money and most die broke. After years of watching them gamble, IMO it starts to go down hill when they start calling in the stakehorse. A lot of the ones that only or mostly bet their own have something to show for it at the end. The smart ones treat it like a business don't bet the farm on one business deal (set). A steakhorse is like a credit card and money won wasn't worked for so means very little to them...just a way to keep score and play for big stakes instead of waiting for the right spot and betting their own (what most call nits). Johnnyt

I understand people are addicted to gambling but it seems like a smart gambler would focus on what he is best at. There is a lot of money in poker but it's fools gold unless you are great at poker.

Same thing with cock fighting. I've been to a cock fight in the Philippines and I know it is politically incorrect in the United States but I enjoyed it (and made a little money). There are people in the Philippines who have that sport down to a science.

I'm no expert on big time pool gambling but wouldn't Alex be able to get backers to finance his gambling in pool? Seems like he could make a decent living and not risk his own money.

I guess it's none of my business but I think he is playing his opponent's game with poker and cock fighting.
