Something Unreal Happened to me Today

Hey all,

I had one of the strangest experiences I have every had in pool. Many times I can see the angle of my shot and it's pretty accurate. Today, I had the below shot. I had no other shot but this kick, i just didn't include all the other balls because it's not necessary. I got down on this shot and before I shot, I suddenly saw my line but the line was more defined and about the heighth of the ball. I decided to shoot that line, watched the cue ball follow that path and watched the ball went straight in. I ran out, then ran a two pack after that. Am I going crazy?

Your unconscious brain at work. It can do that in a millisecond if you let it. Still BY FAR the best computer on Earth!

True story. I once kicked in four balls in a row that were all very similar to that shot. Ball out in the open, with another ball blocking me. They all went straight in the pocket too! It was weird how it came up four times in a row in a game of 9-Ball, but it did. That was over twenty years ago, playing at House Of Billiards in the Valley. I'll never forget that and neither will my opponent. And yes, it felt like I could see the perfect line for each shot. I still kick pretty good for an old fart.

I know the feeling. Sometimes when I have a shot, my eyes just LOCK into place where I need to hit it. I give it a nice firm stroke and it works out very well. Now I just have to do this on a consistent basis :P

Ugh, oh no, not another "feel/aiming system" thread....please. :yikes::nono:

Calling Spidey, Dr, Dave, JB, et al.

PS: The year that Ted Williams hit .400, it is claimed that he said "the baseball looked as big as a basketball almost the entire season".

hehe, I don't think any aiming system was applyied to this shot. I think I have shot this shot more than once before and my brain reminded me. :)

Trust in the force...lol!!! Isn't it a great feeling when you're relaxed enough during play to let you get out of your own way and then let what you know how to do from all that practice OUT! Those are the moments that keep me shooting...congrats on that and thanks for the inspirational post!

Nice response Jay!

When you have played enough, sometimes you can "see" the shot before it happens. That is surely an over-simplification of the event, as such involves more than a projection of sight. You can almost feel the shot even before you are down on the table. Visualize the shot... then make it happen.

Use the force, Luke.

For sure we remember when we make a shot like this. But do we remember the shots that we knew we had the perfect line to kick it in and then missed it by a mile. We tend to only remember what makes us feel good. Not to be negative but whenever I've made a shot like this I knew there was a lot of luck involved.

Jay, your accomplishment of four in a row was amazing but when one's been around as long as you have you're bound to have one of those days.

Good stuff, makes you feel good when it happens.
I've done similar on occasion, just wish I could do it more often.

In the early 70's, a friend of mine used to play pool while on LSD. I sked him how he made the balls - he said the pockets would get bigger then smaller and he just shot when they were big :). This is a true story (of what he told me anyway). Any comment grasshopper? ;)

Nice shot by the way.

How ya doin', Debbie Downer? Haven't you ever had a shot like that where it feels like the lines are drawn right there on the felt for you? There's no luck involved with that. What I call luck is when you think "Yeah, this is just about right" and it is. But there are times when the subconscious takes over and when it does, you better take advantage because God only knows when it's coming again.

BTW, the OP isn't patting himself on the back for making a one rail kick into the side. He's explaining how the shot looked to him.

Seeing and making these kick shots does not make you crazy.

It may make you an honorary filipino, though.

Good shooting.

Your visualization senses were rockin' in 3D. Sweet.

Take care-or more of what you had that night.

It's not uncommon for Dan to have hallucinations, there just not usually at the pool table ;)

This really did happen, he was playing me at the time.

Dave, one day Waterdog wandered into my poolroom in Bakersfield. I had no idea who he was. He just looked like another stoned out hippy to me (this was in the early 70's). He came to the counter and asked if there was anyone there who played pool for money. I played him some 9-Ball and busted him (maybe a couple of hundred).

All the time we were playing he was acting very strange. I finally asked him if anything was wrong and he said no, that he was flying! Flying on what I asked him. He said he was on "blue sunshine", whatever that was. I guessed that it was some kind of acid (it was). I could see that he knew how to play but he kept trying outrageous shots, and missing of course. Later on I found out he had beaten almost everyone in L.A. I guess he got pumped up down there, got loaded, and his next stop was Bakersfield on the way to San Francisco.

I remember one other thing. He was wearing this T-Shirt that had the solar system on it, but in a very weird configuration, with bright colors for the planets and the sun. I'll never forget that shirt. Or Waterdog. I never played him again.
