To much forum arguing.

I'm SO mad you beat me to this!

Another stupid thread

Not nice being facetious. Just what im trying to avoid. I realize you were trying to be cute bu it fell short.:sorry:
I noticed today in the members list how many have signed on and posted a few posts and then disappeared.
Maybe the Mods can send a form letter to those who no longer visit Az why they registered and then stopped coming back to this site.
It really is the best forum for pool and other things associated with our sport.
Maybe they were turned off because in some peoples mind they asked stupid questions and were disparaged for it.

Actually most are probably fake forum ids or people who just had one or two particular questions.

That is a great idea, except I think it should come from the owners rather than the moderators. If I were Mike or Jerry, I would be all over that idea. It might give them some additional management insight as to what direction the site needs to go in.

There are many things that they might discover.

Alright Noob, start learning how to make a paragraph and punctuate your sentences better. :D j/k

Old threads contain outdated information more often than not
....clapping:

What better place for the new info than the same damn ("old") thread? Why must there be two?! Allowing people to ask before they seek only encourages laziness and brain atrophy and obesity and alcoholism and poor gas mileage and many other things.

Gawdammit!

This place is super nice compared to lots of places.

To come to here and ask "What is the best tip" or "What is the best cue" or "What is the best case" is just poor form. It shows that the person is too lazy to look and read what many many forum members have taken the time to write down already.

Just my opinion on forum life in general.

But the answers to these questions change all the time. The resolution for your blackberry error code is likely the same resolution somebody found a year ago.

If I ask "What is the best tip?", I want to know today's best tip, not last years. I recently had a tip replaced, and the Tiger Emerald thread from a year ago has TONS of good things to say about it, but I may have made a mistake, since there are newer threads praising the Tiger Onyx and Kamui tips now.

Edit: Although, as Black-Balled pointed out, I should probably just bump an old thread. Some people tend to avoid that because a lot of forums will jump all over you for bumping a months- or years-old thread (which I think is silly -- it's still cleaner than multiple threads on the same topic).

IMHO arguing, and forums go hand in hand. This forum is for adults, and adults argue. No arguing over that statment please! JMHO.

You think it's too late for me to be a Backstreet Boy?

Oh, you know they'll tour again at some point, and I definitely think you have....THE RIGHT STUFF

ooops, mixed up my boy band songs

how about - they'll let you join if .... you want it that way.

I agree we shouldn't "disparage" people for asking questions. I have seen it elsewhere, too. I posted something on craigslists once and got rude comments - I didn't know the rules of asking about certain breeds of dogs. I felt like $hit after everyone yelled at me. :o

If we can be kinder with our responses, that'd be cool. But I have to admit when we hear the same thing over and over, people tend to be snippy and sarcastic with their replies, like "try the search button next time!" or "this has been asked a million times, moron."

Hard to change spots on a cat, though, I've heard. ;)

One feature of the Search function that I miss is that it will not allow me to search for a word that is three-letters long. It is too short of a word for AzBilliards Search. I would also love it if the search function allowed us to use quotation marks around certain phrases, like in Google, but I'm sure that's a feature that only Google can provide.

I'm a pretty good Googler in recent years. :p

JAM there are a variety of search engines that allow quotes and also the use of boolean operators, though many of the searching public won't or can't use those functions.

Why do some people have to be snippy and saracastic with their replies simply because they've heard it all a million times?

I would hope that some people would want to allow others to have a little pleasure in their lives by allowing them to explore this not so new territory with wonder and joy rather than bursting their bubble and telling them what tripe they are for going over a subject that has been barbecued more than once.

It gets old to me, hearing about the same old questions, posed a different way and somtimes exactly the same but I am always in hope that perhaps a new voice, a new soul or maybe just another discussion might just happen to share an insight with us, that we haven't already seen. I don't see any problem with being a little more tolerant. Afterall, this forum doesn't belong to any of us and we shouldn't be acting like it does.

None of us are so special that we have nothing new to learn.

The bottom line is, let some of these people who don't use the search features or who don't know how to use the search features have a little joy in their lives. Most of us have enjoyed this forum as if it were new to us at one time or another. I'd prefer to see the more vocal and senior posters either become more tolerant and contribute to the discussions or just not participate in some of the redundant threads.

It's nice to see that there are new posters, some of them with great writing skills, new perspectives, and maybe something new or slightly different to offer, just lurking in the background, waiting for an opportunity to post and become part of the family.
