It makes me feel good to know that I probably could beat Efren at one time - in 1964. 
Can you imagine if someone had brought him to the last Stardust tournament in 1972? He was 18 then and already one of the best players in the Philippines. What kind of career would he have had if he started coming over here in the mid 70's, during his prime years. I can just see Efren showing up in Dayton at Joe Burn's events in 1973, 74 and 75. OMG, what a sensation he would have been, and able to play so many of the old timers who were still around. Buddy was at his peak then too. Too bad he never came until 1985. We missed some of his best years.
P.S. He made a mockery of that Red's tournament, back in January, 1985. He was giving multiple game spots to all the best players in America, and robbing them. After the tournament ended for the day, he was gambling with our best hustlers (Keith, Sigel, Medina etc.) and robbing them too. He played night and day for a week and beat everybody. EASILY! Finally after it was over, he lost one "questionable" set to Buddy for five grand. It was the only time I saw him miss balls all week.
