The internet sensation Florian 'Venom' Kohler is once again proving his ability to compete in the traditional tournament format, this time at the ESPN Trickshot Magic in Vegas. The event features the worlds top 8 players.

Florian just defeated Stefano Pelinga by a score of 9-7 (or 9-8?), allowing him to advance to the semi finals.

Anyway, I just wanted to publicly congratulate him on his efforts. He continues to surpass expectation and hopefully will finally have silenced the naysayers. People thought I was crazy when I made that DVD with a total unknown 'internet kid', but clearly his potential is beginning to shine through.

Best of luck to Florian in the semi finals!

He was a great find for you for sure. I'm not into trickshots but I love watching Venom. The guy is amazing. He will win many trickshot tournaments. Thanks for the update. Johnnyt

Thanks for your support Johnny.

I'm actually not sure if Florian will continue to compete. The format used in most events is very restricting to Florian's creativity, which really goes against the heart of what truly defines his abilities. ESPN Trickshot Magic appears to be the most lenient event, and yet Florian is only allowed to submit 3 of his own creations per match. The remaining 6-7 shots are picked out of a pre established "shot book", which are mostly shots he does not practice when not competing.

I hope he continues to compete, but I will fully understand if he opts not to. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be surprised that the only reason he is competing right now is because he feels the need to prove himself. :(

Please note that I am not speaking on Florian's behalf, but rather just sharing my personal feelings.

Florian, and all of the other players, submitted 7 shots for Trick Shot Magic. Each have their own skill category or span multiple skill categories. Within each match, a player can select a maximum of 3 shots from any give category. It's probably more for TV purposes so audiences don't keep seeing the same types of shots over and over, but it also keeps players from being one dimensional and encourages them to broaden their skillset.

The shot book contains many shots submitted by players in previous years' competitions. So it's conceivable that some of Florian's shot will still be used in future events.

I think le Venom is a little without a proper venue for his talents.

As mentioned, the current format is quite restrictive when imposed on his abilities.

Il est à un autre niveau.

Initial airing is scheduled for Nov 28, 4-7pm EST, I'm guessing on ESPN.

I'm sure we'll try to post the results here this evening when the event concludes though.

Talk about a tough draw for Florian. I feel he's facing the two toughest opponents in the early rounds. Is this due to seeding, seeing how Florian is probably unranked?

Jamey Gray beat Nick Nikolaidis in semifinal #1.

I'm not sure how the draw is done, but I would figure it's random. There's really not much between any of the guys there.

Andy beat Florian.

Jamey Gray vs Andy Segal in the final about to get started.

Wow! I FINALLY found this thread! I looked for something about the ESPN Trick Shot Magic event for the past 2 days. When I couldn't find anything, I assumed it was here, but I couldn't find it and we were so busy coming and going that I didn't have time to babysit a thread, anyway.

Thanks for finding and updating the thread, Tim.

We can't wait to see this on tv. As soon as we find out what channel it will be on, we'll have to run around town trying to find a place that has it. I'm quite sure it will be worth watching, though!

Congrats to Andy for his win!

Renee...If I had to guess, I'd bet it will be on ESPN!

Hi everybody!!

First thanks for the support, secondly, yes I'm quite proud of what I've done this event...Of course Andy beats me but he is ranked number1 and the final score was 11-8 so quite high.

Anyway, I didn't go ridiculous and pull of some of my greatest shots on TV.
I learnt a lot and I think it will help me in the futur...But Nate, yeah, on this tournament every player is hard to beat, excepted Andy who is still harder than the other :)
