In the Seminole Pro Tour tournament going on this weekend, Mike has won three matches in a row and his opponents have failed to win even ONE GAME.

He must be on fire.....

When I played with him a week ago he didn't miss a ball in 3 hours

Mike is gonna snap this tournament off. He looked really good today. Tomorrow is gonna be tough.

He is an amazing player. I remember stats from a link I posted about a tournament that he won which were amazing. It said that he B&R 40+% of all games he played and B&R 60% of all racks he broke and made at least one ball.

I would love to see a gray beard like him, Earl, Efren, Buddy Hall and the like take down the US Open this year. Seems like a few monsters of the not so distant past have awakened to show us they still have quite a lot of gas left in the tank.

I don t think that someone expected that he lost his abilities. Sigel still is one of the greatest players on this planet. All of those champions are still able to shoot like hell- if they feel good and if they *want* it.

Just my opinion:)

Sounds like Mike has the balls rolling his way for sure, would love to see him get on a roll and win several tournaments, and hopefully a Major. I'm guessing Mike is about 56 or 57 yrs. that's not very old, and him being one of the greatest pool players to have ever lived I think he can still do it!

Josh Brothers has only allowed opponents 4 games in the three matches he's won so far...one of those being Stevie Moore. Dennis Hatch has only conceeded 3 racks, and none of those were to Manny Chau, whom he defeated in the first round.

I agree....tho he has lost some stride in his 9 ball but I know he could still win a Straight Pool WC imop. Look at Earl they were talking a little smack about him and then he won another US OPEN! Not to mention quite a few winning performances at the Mosconi cup for good ole USA. (those players aren't slouches)

Hell Keith McCready got 3rd, 7 years ago at the US OPEN ....no one thought anything untill he started rolling on through....I was fingers crossed wishing he would snap it off but sadly it didn't happen.

Another David Matlock dam near won the allaround at the derby by i believe 1 or 2 points b/h effren around 2005 or so. Daves no spring chicken anymore either. Effren is in a hell of a lot better shape physically even they are roughly the same age.

Speaking of Earl I was talking with him a few months back and he said he really enjoyed one pocket....the thing he liked the most? Not as much luck...truer test of skill.....he got 4th up at the Tulsa event i believe which is pretty dam good considering the field which was STACKED to the ROOF with top notch one pocket players.

As much as I don't like Seigel if he wanted to play full time he could and would be right back in the mix imop if he did. But why the hell would he theres no money to be made unless you win the WC or US OPen....and its still not much. Its not like he's half nutz (like earl...god bless him) so his mental game should be fine....

I don't think he's that old for it to really break down his game that much. but who knows.

Well, I am just thrilled to hear Mike is playing well. He and Nick Varner were the "legends" to look up to when I started playing pool. I saw Mike and Nick on a Billiards Trade Show doing trick shots together and it was totally amazing. Must have been in the eighties but I still remember that shot where they were both shooting a ball from the corner pocket oppositie to each other at the same time, it hit exactly in the middle of the table with both balls going back into the pocket they were shot from! Has anyone got a video of that??? With me struggling to hit a ball straight that time I could not forget that shot, ever... :nono:

It was third place and seven years ago, but who's counting?! :D

Here's a little U.S Open factoid -- well, almost a factoid. Mike Sigel and Corey Deuel are the two youngest to have ever won the U.S. Open, both 21. I have been unable to find out both of their birthdays. If I ever do, then this factoid can be confirmed positively one way or the other.

It is cool to read about Sigel doing well in the Seminoles' NYC event. Go, Mike, go! :)

Here's a cute shot of Keith on the left and Michael Coltrain on the right with the oldest player to have ever won the U.S. Open in the middle, which is none other than "Spanish Mike" Lebron who got his U.S. Open championship at the age of 54.

Nick Varner and Mike Sigel both started up their own cue lines after reigning in on the tournament trail during their peaks.

Nick has continued to be a "regular" on the tournament trail today, and make no mistake about it, he can still get there. Nobody likes to pull Nick's name on the roster. He's a tough cookie. Playing him is like playing a chess player who has the ability to think nine plays ahead.

He also gives back to pool today as one of the sponsors of Shannon (Daulton) and Marge's regional tour, the Greater Southern Billiard Tour.

Here's Nick Varner on the right posing with Keith; again, picture taken at the U.S. Open.

Hey Joey............Maybe there's still hope for us old guys!

By the way thanks to you, Buffalo, and everybody at Buffalos Billiards in Metarie, Louisiana for all your hospitality i received when I visited a couple weeks back. It was well worth the side-trip south on my way to Fort Worth. I wish I'd had more time.

My only complaint was that the beer was too cheap and I drank a little too much! hahaha

See you in October in Lafayette.
