Class: Darren Appleton

I heard a story this weekend about this guy and while I don't have every single detail the crux of the story is that after Darren finished playing Earl Strickland this weekend at the Mizerak Seminole Pro Tour Championship in which Darren lost, he was overheard to say that he enjoys playing Earl Strickland.

You know, there are not many people who would be overheard saying such things after taking a loss in such an important and lucrative tournament.

Props to you Darren! You are indeed a credit to our sport.

BTW, congratulations on this year's U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship.

Daz seems like a cool guy. I liked the vids he had up about living in elsewheres.

Thumbs up! Congrats at your ruling the pool world!

I don't know Darren personally but he does seem to be a very down to earth nice guy and a great player. I hear he maybe spending a bit more time in the States next year which would be great news. Well done on your US open win Darren.

Darren is a class act with more heart per square inch than just about any other pool player. He never gives up and never quits grinding. A real bulldog!

I posted this before, but here it is again, I think it bears repeating. Darren told me at The QMasters party that Earl is a HUGE fan favorite in England. He expounded on why that was, citing differences in English vs US "outlooks". I can say without hesitation that Darren genuinely thinks highly of Earl. Their match was exhilarating! What a heartbreaker for Darren to lose that and what a fabulous sportsman he is to take it so graciously. I'm sure Darren is very happy for Earl.

Speaking of good English humor, here's a pic I took that should illicit some yucks!

Daren Appleton is a class act!! When I was at the U.S. Open this year my friend Kool Cat Nine Lives , myself & a couple of other buddies had the pleasure of seeing him at Q Masters after his victory. The next thing you know we were taking lots of pics with him and he must have given us no less than 15 min. of personable time telling stories ect. He certainly didn't have to do that. During that time Earl's name came up as we were telling Darren that he plays at the Pool Room back in Greensboro, NC. Darren said that Earl was one of his Pool Heroes who he watched growing up and did respect what he has to say about the game past ,present and furture. Said Earl is well liked in England but perhaps not in other Euro countries. Darren helped to put the finishing touches on a very enjoyable U S Open for us for sure!!

I think he's the best money player to come out of England since
John Spencer.

If he moves to NYC can we call him THE BIG APPLETON?

Earl is well liked everywhere in Europe. His behaviour is sometime really inapropriate, but the Pearl is a legend ;) ...in England as in Italy, in France, in Switzerland and even in Vatican

I heard Daz commentating some at the barbox championships and I must say, he is a funny sonofagun.

So lets recap:

He's the current US Open 9 ball champion.

He plays, as Jay said, like a bulldog, never gives up.

He's gracious even in defeat.

He's generous in spending time with fans.

And he's got a great sense of humor.

I think it's safe to say we could use a lot more players like him.

Best,
Brian kc

Yes we need a lot more players in pool like Darrel Appleton. He seems like the "what you see is what you get" type. Not a phony in him like some other top players. Johnnyt

I can't believe he has a Budweiser in his hand! Well, I guess it's Belgian import beer now and not American pi$$ in a bottle anymore lol

I've heard Bustamante say something similar. I think he said it's always an honor to play him.

Okay, where's the talented photoshoppers?

We need an English bulldog body with a Darren Appleton head... lol

Best,
