I never served, but I have the utmost respect and gratitude for those that have. Thank you for all you've given to this country!
(I was draft #84 in November 1971 (18th birthday) and was going to be drafted for sure, but they ended the draft before called).

PFC Helfert, Regular U.S. Army, 356th Transportation Unit. I got my Honorable Discharge in 1972. I was fortunate to not have to serve in Vietnam as many of my buddies did. Some didn't come back either. I am saddened now as I think of two of my classmates who gave their life in that conflict. So young too.
I am very thankful for all who are serving and those who have served our country. It's not fun putting your ass on the line and you have my complete respect. I will continue to salute all soldiers I see during my travels.
