Mosconi Cup Streaming ?

Yea alot of what ifs. The whole team made mistakes.

My pont is, it was a very close competition, so you can't really say that the Europeans played great and that all the Americans played poorly. If that were true, the score would have been more lopsided.

The only what-if I mentioned was Hatch's mistake.

I'm really glad I had the opportunity to see this year Mosconi Cup. Europe players just cranked it up in a very good way. Appleton was the shotmaker and showman but it was a real team effort to take down Team USA.

And it's always a pleasure to see Michaela Tabb :)

I have to say, I think the Mosconi Cup is great for pool.

No.

It "would" be great for pool if it was presented live on TV to the general public. It "would" garner a huge amount of interest to a much needed potential fanbase.

But it does nothing really for this sport when the only people actually getting to watch the excitement live are the people like us on AZB who are already fans of the sport and we are left jumping from obscure live stream to obscure live stream as they drop and come back up to attempt to watch it.

The event will be on ESPN in a few months in an editted format skipping games with the "1-1, we need to go to commercial" "Welcome back, the score is now 4-1".

That does nothing for the sport at all, in fact it makes the whole thing look ridiculous. It is bad enough if they showed a football game months after it was played. Now imagine they skipped a quarter and came back with a 14 point swing the fans never get to watch...

The Mosconi Cup is a huge waste of phenomenal potential promotion of this sport. It is simply sad. The number of hard to find live streams we caused to drop "should" be a example of the potential pool has as a spectator sport when presented in a live non-editted format. Next year do you think the Mosconi Cup will be presented live on TV though? Don't bet on it.

Archer definitely played great for the U.S.

I agree. He was solid the whole way and had we been lucky enough to see a 10-10 score he would have been my pick as captians pick if I were Nick.

Well, sad to see us not retain it but it was a fun 2 days and 4 nights of pool watching. I hope that next year they don't mess with the format. As many times as we saw a 5-1 lead go down in flames it just wasn't cool to suddenly shorten up the sets.

At 10-10, Archer would have been the man.

Problem is at 10-9 Hatch would have been the one attempting to make it 10-10 and he is a big underdog in that match against anyone on team Europe IMO the way he was shaking. He needs to play more pro pool and get battle hard for this type of thing. You cannot play 1-2 tournaments a year against true world class fields and expect to come into a tournament with this kind of pressure against Ralf Souquet, Mika Immonen, Appleton and others who are constantly competing against the best in the world and expect to perform.

I would have surmised Morris the 10-9 player.

Ya my first thought was that Europe would pick Morris for sure, but then after seeing Hatch get really shaky at the end of his last match I wondered if Europe might not pick him with the hopes that his nerves were shot.

I still would have probably picked Morris because he had a tough few days and if Hatch gets on a roll he really motivates our team with his big heart and his emotions. Regardless, these guys all played their hearts out with a ton of pressure on them... it was a close match with some top notch shooting and that is about all you can ask for.

Those emotions were killing Hatch this year, the guy snapped a cue after losing to Appleton after a huge comeback. I am for sure putting ALL the pressure on Hatch in that 10-9 match. There is no way he does not pressure up in that close of a match after being chosen as the "weak link" by team Europe. The message is entirely too clear.

I didn't see that, but I did hear them say Darren's stick was in 2 pieces after he dropped it on the floor !

You must have missed last year's Mosconi Cup in Vegas. Dennis laid it on everyone he played. He single handedly buoyed up the entire American squad and played great from start to finish. In a word, Dennis was AWESOME!

P.S. He was voted the MVP as well.

This year my USA weak pick is Hatch for sure. His emotion that pumped him up last year is having the opposite effect on him this year and causing huge amounts of pressure. ATM if you put the pressure on him with tough shots it is not a good thing for team USA. He has alot of little demons in his head atm he is doing battle with on the table.

Different year, different expectations. Last year Dennis was an unknown as to how he would play and really had nothing to lose. He shot great because of it and he fed off the emotion.

This year because of the success he had last year there was alot more expectation for him to have another great performance and such a thing has the ability to put a whole different mindset into the game and the same emotion that fueled him when riding a high last year put added pressure on him when now being expected to perform and it hurt his game.

There is a reason I think that robots like the Taiwanese are the best players in the world, they are far more immune to the above because they block out emotion when playing the game.

Emotion can sometimes help you out when things are going well but they can often be your worst enemy when the wheels fall off.

FYI - THIS YEAR Dennis finished with a 3-2 record (in singles and doubles), one of only two Americans with a winning record, along with Johnny. He defeated Nick Van Den Berg on the final day when the US trailed 9-7, and was on the verge of losing the Cup. Dennis' win brought the US team within 9-8, with Shane coming up next against Appleton. We all thought Team USA had a chance at this point.

Dennis came up big when he had to imo. It was a must win situation against Van Den Berg and he came though to give his team a chance at victory. If, as you say, "the wheels had truly fallen off," he would have never won this key match on the final day.
