with no info re: his skill level, I'd add Dr. Ben Carson:

I don't know if anyone mentioned it here, but while I was living out in LA I used to go to the Burbank Elks club...It is a 3cushion billiards center.
I heard tale that Charlie Sheen has a 3 cushion table, and he plays a respectable average near the 1.0 mark. I guess he fell in love with the game because he had a role that involved the game of 3 cushion.
A man that can play 3 cushion, and understand the spin, kicks, banks and speed control in billiards to get past a .6 average speaks volumes about his overall game.
I am sure that he could hold his own against most players if not spot them in our sport if the rumors are true, and he really is a 1.0 player. It takes some talent to get there.
I am gonna have to call bs...on that, m-man!
Don't you just call BS on everything I say?
I don't know how you know all this, but it's true! Jerry Breisath was Whoopi's coach on that film and I played a pool player (what else?).
Yep, Forest Park Billiards where they had the big tournaments in the 70's.
P.S. I forgot about James Garner, who was the best player in Norman, Oklahoma when he was a young man. I used to play with his brother when I went to school there (I did make it to class once in a while).![]()
Here's a picture of Fred Astaire, his son and a dapper young Danny DiLiberto. Danny told me that he and Fred were friends back in the day and Fred used to come watch him play in tournaments.Orbach could certainly play (although he was far from "world class"), and held a love for the game throughout his life. In the 60's & 70's, the best celebrity poolplayer was none other than Peter Falk (Columbo)...and with only one eye no less! IIRC, Falk is still alive, but I don't know if he still plays. Fred Astaire also loved the game, and hosted billiards parties at his California home, which had 4 nine foot Brunswick tables in the basement. This information came from Jack White, who was friends with several Hollywood actors who loved pool. He has pictures with many of them hanging on his "wall of fame".
While I agree that Jeanette is certainly a celebrity, she doesn't qualify, imo, in this thread, because she is a legitimate professional poolplayer. She has certainly done more than almost any other single person to raise the awareness of pool in the public eye! Keep up the great work Jeanette!

Did a search and came up with this...

Ever see Top Gun ? Or Back To The Future ?
My friends and I had the pleasure of meeting James Tolkan while playing in the Huther-Doyle tournament in Rochester back in the 90's. A buddy of mine actually got to play him (and got his ass handed to him). Tolkan shoots pretty good...
And Mr. Tolkan is one of the coolest people around to boot. He came and hung out with a lot of us at the local bar, telling stories and using lines from his movies on us. His timing's impeccable. Nothing like leaning over the table preparing to shoot and hearing stuff like, "C'mon, Maverick, take the shot !!!" and, "Slacker !!!". We were in stitches the entire night !!! Nice guy, real down to earth person.
Wow! How could I forget James Tolkan. Good memory, Lance Link.
He lives in Upstate New York now. He attended some of the earlier Joss Tour tournaments held at Turning Stone. Of course, I was snapping pictures left and right that year. Here's a cute shot of Dennis Hatch, James Tolkan, and another player.![]()

I've heard that Paul Sorvino plays a decent game, but I've never seen him play, so I can't say.
Nice photo but that's not Fred's son. It's Pete Margo, a pretty darn good player himself!
P.S. Check out those Ginacue cases! Pretty cool huh. Those sleek little things held one butt and two shafts.
I believe the best of the actor/pool players was Jerry Orbach of "Law and Order fame. He was a world class pool player who actually once gave Cornbread Red a run for his money during a match way back.......
