MIA - AZ Missing in Action List

The Captain PM'ed some of the old timers recently. It sounded like health concerns stopped his pool playing; so he's moved on to other hobbies. It was nice hearing from him.

Now who here knows anything about "drivermaker." He could really stir the pot (banned). I definitely miss him.

P.S. - I seriously liked Gremlin. He always had a picture and a story about one of the women players he stalked....errrr.....liked. Cheap shot...couldn't help myself; but I was serious that I liked him.

Drivermaker, whether you loved him or hated him, was truly larger than life. He is alive and well and can be found on Jimbo's board as a legendary wild west lawman.

Drivermaker is the stuff of internet lore, an old school man's man with a computer and a wit. He reminds me of the song "a boy named Sue" because he was joking and serious and funny and would cut off a piece of your ear - all in the same sentence. Don't rile him up because he was always up for a fight. As far as I can tell, he didn't lose.

I still can't quite figure out Drivermaker, but I smile when I think of him. He defended Meucci's like they were sacred but played with a $5,000 cue and never talked about it.

He was just too wild for a moderated atmosphere. It was bound to end with a ban.

How about Colin Colenso. His last post was on 07-03-2010. He was one of the only AZ members that I have met in person. It was at the IPT 8-ball event in Vegas. He always had a lot of good and thoughtful posts.

CaptainJR hasn't been around in quite a while...I too enjoyed his posts and his debates and sense of humor. I'm also sorry that JAM doesn't post as often as she used to, I know she's still around but not nearly as often. My feeling is that there are several reasons why people disappear...they get disgusted with the negativity, they give up pool, they get involved with something else, they get bored with forums, they get red-bombed, they get banned by Mr. Wilson, they have a serious illness, or they die. I'm sure there's more...

I'm still around, Rayjay, but it's only to keep up with the pool smut for my partner.

Your words have lifted my spirit today. I am going through a difficult time right now. My birth mother is in end stage dementia, and she has been sent to a state-run nursing home. Her husband is not doing very well either. He's in the hospital and is refusing treatment because he doesn't want to run up any bills. They don't have the money for all the medical problems. They will lose their life savings within a year. It costs $300 each per day in the nursing home, which is where they will both reside together.

It kind of puts things in perspective when it comes to forums.

Moderated forums can be difficult to administer, but in recent times, the forum rules seem to not be adhered to as much as they were a long time ago when I first joined AzBilliards.

I am a moderator of an industry forum. It is a young forum and not nearly as big as this one. What a difference in the climate of that place and AzBilliards.

I guess I like to enjoy forums as opposed to engaging in negativity. I am glad that the majority of members here are still enjoying AzBilliards.

I met Colin too. I actually played him in Shanghai, China and it was a great experience. We rode the subway together packed like sardines to get to the pool room.

When he moved back to Australia, he was complaining about the slow speed of the internet connection. He probably found pool to be dead there and lost interest.

Colin had a good mind for pool and would have been a good instructor.

That sort of thing is always so depressing.

I find it helpful to take some breaks from posting too now and then. I took a couple of months off here and there and enjoyed the peace and quiet and came back recharged.

Then something sucks me back in. I really enjoyed the whole Dippy/Frost/ Incardone saga - that got my vote as the wildest thread in AZ history.

Jimbo, of course.

Drivermaker was a wild man - who is sorely missed.

Frankly, we had good thought-provoking conversations back then. Then we got all liberal and decided to ban the likes of Drivermaker while protecting Eddie Wheat, Painpool and Barkcinammon.

How many times we can log in and see the same dumb threads about BHE, tip length, OB1 vs 314, best Filipino cue, 2000 word responses from JB and whether Earl is reformed, without getting bored to death and leaving??

I rarely even look in the Main Forum anymore for that very reason. If I ever find myself with "enough" cues and stop buying, I'd have no reason to return to AZ.

This is actually the first good thread I've seen in a while, even though it's just a gander in the rearview mirror.

Ah Yeah!!

I will always keep an eye on my AZ brothers. I am very busy with the horses. I attempt to sell a cue now and then but that catagory moves mighty quick these days. I'll keep coming back though.
Peace, Don

Hi Don,

I check up on you every once in a while to make sure you're posting.

I also wonder what became of Shorty after he was banned. Would have thought he'd have popped up at Jimbo's site. Not to forget Leonard Bludworth either, after his wife passed he just faded from AZ. It's interesting how forum relationships are perceived. For many young folks this type of interaction is normal, but for some of us (not so young) it's an experience we could have never imagined, me included...

Yes, I almost forgot about Shorty. He came back a couple of times in different screen names and would shoot me a PM to say hello. Not knowing specifics, I would wonder if health issues are keeping him away.

He was supposed to come to Los Angeles and we were going to get together but his trip got cancelled for some reason. This was 5 years ago I would guess.

I am so sorry to hear of your family's situation. This is happening to so many people all over the country and is such a terrible dilema for all involved. I don't want to start a debate over healthcare reform, but there's a lot of tragedy because of the system we have allowed to develop. As always, good to see you posting. Take good care of your partner and God bless...your family is in my prayers.

What ever happened to Purdman?!? Hi Don. Still enjoying the cues from you. We have to play sometime. When it warms up, let's have a bbq and you can teach me banks...

He did pop up there. It was not pretty. He hasn't posted there for quite some time now.

Hi Don, good to see your post !

Haven't seen "Flex" in a while here? Kinda miss those milk dud tip posts. :D

Anytime beetle, I am always up for a barbeque. I would also be happy to teach you anything I can.
Peace, Don

I lurked for a long time before joining, and always wondered what happened to BVal.

Old School

Donovan was a guy I went to college with. Haven't seen him on here for years.

Also Timberly. I met her once at Jeeves party at the SBE.

9 Ball Girl (Wendy) and CarolNYC (Carol Clark), two very nice ladies who used to post on here frequently, as well as Billiards Digest forum.

Both are lovely people who never had anything negative to say about anyone.

Their enthusiasm and love for pool was infectious. I always enjoyed their company on the rail and on this forum. Hope they're doing well! :)
