Bring back the traditional nine ball.......who agree's ???

How about instead we just get rid of 9 Ball? Or, maybe rename Texas Express rules 9 Ball to "Banger Ball" :)

Winter rules for golf and the putt-putt rule that lets me move the ball a putter length when it comes to rest against the rail give me ample opportunity to not have to play my ball from where it came to rest. I'll take my 9ball and 10ball with pushout on the break only, thank you

nah. 3 foul, push after break only is fine. I would like to see all shots called, money ball must be pocketed last to win.

how about just breaking from the box and no jump cues or phenolic tips? Jump with your playing cue only or learn to use the rails. That changes allot of the strategy.

This has been done to death and I'm one of them that's done it. Not enough people, especially younger players, who know just how the game is played and the benefits of strategic 9 ball vs today's tactical 9 ball. Takes more thinking than current rules. Sorry, though I'd like to see it, along with many others, it's not gonna happen.
The 10 ball rules, with some modification, ain't bad, though.

It makes no sense for a player to have the opportunity to play the shot from anywhere other that where it lies.

Corey is wrong, I say! WRONG!

I'd rather see bigger tables (10') and tighter pockets. Pool players today are like basketball players playing on an 80' court with 9' baskets and 3' rims.

9 Ball and 10 Ball rules

If you want to go ahead and change some of the rules in (9 ball and 10 ball) , think about some of these rules. This will separate the top Players from the weaker players. This would take away the luck factor of the games, or slopped in balls. Sometimes I disagree with the luck factor, or 2 way shot, because like in football when someone fumbles and a defense player picks up the ball up and run in the opposite direction for a defense touchdown, and that is an exciting part of the game of football............WHEN EVER A PLAYER MISSES A SHOT...THEIR OPPONENT HAS CUE BALL IN HAND. ALSO WHEN USING THESE RULES, ALLOW A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF NUMBER OF SAFETIES THAT ONE PLAYER CAN USE DURING EACH GAME. and has to be called, ALLOW JUMP SHOTS, BECAUSE THAT IS SOMETHING SPECTATORS ENJOY SEEING,AND IS EXCITING.BUT AGAIN, LIMIT THE JUMP SHOT TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES DURING THE MATCH IT CAN BE DONE WITH A SHORT CUE, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND A PLAYER CAN JUMP BALLS AS MANY TIMES HE WANTS, AS LONG AS HE'S USING A FULL LENGTH CUE. THESE RULES CAN BE LIKE THE 3 POINT SHOT IN NBA AND THE 2 POINT CONVERSION IN FOOTBALL, JUST TO BE A LITTLE MORE EXCITING. SOME OF THESE RULES THEY ALREADY USE: SUCH AS BALL IN HAND AFTER A MISS, IS USED IN THE 7 BALL MATCHES LIKE THEY SHOW IN THE FALL ON ESPN, MOSTLY IN OCTOBER. .......This is just my opinion....sorry for all of the caps, but I did not want to type this over, I might not get finished for 2 hours, as I have very poor typing skills. PLEASE NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS TO MY POST AS IT WAS MEANT TO MY OPINION. IF YOU DISAGREE WITH SOME OF THEM, I KNOW SOME WILL, JUST POST SOME OF YOUR OWN IDEAS OR OPINIONS...............Thanks....duker....

why?

I think you are not stating the real point.

Why did 9 ball evolve or degenerate to the game it is? Because of TV. I remember when the normal game in a pool hall was 14-1 and you played 9 ball for gambling. We used to play a dime on the 5 and a quarter on the 9. The 5 ball was always racked at the rear. After a foul we had the cue ball in the kitchen not ball in hand.

8 ball was only played in a bar and there was no such thing as BIH.

Well .... it seems that 14-1 is much too boring for the TV generation where sitcoms last 30 minutes with 10 minutes of commercials.

So it came to 9 ball for the fast and the furious. And then it had to be made even faster so we change the rules to get the game to end sooner.

So how can we make it even faster???? Have you seen the 9 ball tournament where every miss results in BIH for the opponent??

I may not be in the majority with my opinion, but I like 9 ball as is.

Kick safeties in 9 ball are some of the most skillful shots in pool, changing the rules to 2 foul push out would take this aspect out of pool entirely (except for the occasional one pocket shot, but one pocket kick safes are usually quite different from 9 ball ones).

I don't think call shot is the answer either because call shot rules take out a lot of 2 way shot opportunities.

The only things I would change is to make 4.25" pockets standard and use 10 balls instead of 9. I think the problem most people have with current 9 ball rules is that their opponents tend to shit balls in and the break is too easy. If you decreased pocket size, shit in balls would not happen as often. If you go to a 10 ball rack, the break becomes much harder.

Changes

I didn't mean to major changes, what I meant the top Pros want to take away the luck factor out of the game and call shot and call safety They also want to remove the 2 way shot. My opinion is to keep these rules, it makes the game more exciting if the last ball moving gets knocked in the pocket and then.the player stills shoots, puts excitement to the game for 1 person The rules I mentioned before about Ball in Hand after you miss, I think was only put in there to make the game shorter for TV. The call shot and call safety makes the game so much longer. I think I worded it wrong..duker..

Instead of debating to change the games, maybe the question should be at what skill level should you transition away from 9-ball, say to 10-ball?
