Earl's version of what happened at SBE.

People can go judge and jury without all the facts and throw Earl in the river, it's your preogative, but to me, this smells fishy as hell.

What does Earl mean by "tilting" the rack? I'm not familiar with that term.

I just got off the phone with Earl and he told me to post what actually happened.

He was playing Alex and Alex was tilting the rack. Earl noticed this and made a comment to Alex. Alex was not happy that Earl had called him on this but corrected it. Next rack Alex tiled it again and so Earl said something and the conversation got a little heated "The Archer comes by the table and starts sharking me too, most of the players are cheaters and will do things just to get me pissed off and try to manipulate the rack".

The TD came over and told me that I was just going to sit down and be quiet and play pool and I asked "Why can't I defend myself? the guy is tiling the rack, surely I am aloud to say something to defend myself from guys doing that to me?" The TD gave me a warning and some people in the crowd cheered at that. They allowed him to do this to me and made it so I could not question Alex's rack. So the crowd supported hi decision to handicap me. Although I don't know if they knew what the reason was for me getting into it.

I lost that match and had another at 8.00, I arrived a little late but waited until 8.25 for my opponent. At that time I asked the TD "Where is my opponent?" the TD said "I have to call him" . "YOU HAVE TO CALL HIM??" Its 8.25? thats when the TD gave him the boot.

So thats Earl's side of it. Just passing on the message,.

Like I said in a previous post, I was there. Earl went into his rant about the rack, then after Archer walked behind him. No, Johnny was NOT sharking. Just moving to his next shot. Earl not not down on his shot when this happened. The tables are kind of close to each other there but everyone else got around just fine.

Well reasoned excuses for Earl's behavior are still just that, excuses.

All of the other players there are dealing with the same fans, same TD.

Earl has the emotional maturity of a 13 year old, it's that simple. I don't care if he has some thread of truth in his reasons for his tirades. We all have those in our daily life, and not reacting like a spoiled bratty 13 year old is what defines us as adults.

Earl is obviously a very unhappy person. If he were to work on his emotional well-being as much as he works on his pool game, he could be un-beatable again. Until then, I applaud the TD for not letting Earl become the show and shark the other players that have worked just as hard and deserve the same respect Earl demands.

While it's great that everyone is interested in Earl's side of the story, we need to consider the tournament director's, Frank Del Pizzo's, point-of-view. The TD has a tournament to run and focusing too much time on any one player takes away from other things that need to be done.

Earl is a virtuoso at pushing people's buttons and taking them to the limit. The OP should try to contact the TD to get his side of the story too.

In all my years of pool, I have never heard of a player being ejected for questioning where his opponent is or why the TD would be calling a player who had already missed his start time.

The discussion should never have had to happen in the first place. 15 minutes late? You lose!

Looks like the Bad Blood match with Archer just gained momentum:wink:
I think you may be correct. If Johnny Archer was sharking him it shows a level of dislike and if he wasn't and Earl Strickland thinks he was it shows that he does not trust Archer. So the bad blood match has another side to it along with all the others that have been witnessed.

If you note that the other thread about ES ejection was started at 8:15, it could not have been past 8:12/13 or so when Earl was thrown out meaning his opponent was not yet 15 minutes late. If Earl BS'd about the time, his ENTIRE story is certainly in question.

EDIT-Based on the TD's version-this match must not have been scheduled for 8-My bad.

Well, I wasn't there so I don't know how it all really went down but I know that Pagulayan can get shady with the rack. He's a smart kid and probably knew about the tension between Earl and the TD and capitalized on it knowing Earl would make aq fuss about the rack and explode. I've noticed that Alex doesn't ever pull that funny rack nonsense with Bustamante and company.

OK so Earl is saying that he wanted to deal with a racking issue and the TD refused? Then the crowd pipes up to cheer on this behavior and Earl is a Donk for being upset?
If Alex was questioning Earls rack, do you think the TD would have behaved the same way? Then Earl shows emotion about his opponent being 25mins late and he gets booted? Even if there is 25% truth to this, its appalling. Try to play the other best player in the universe with this going on.
Next time deal with the racking issue TD.
Give Earl his entry fee back.

I was watching the live stream and the announcers said they talked to the td and he said he expected to eject Earl in his next match. If that match is archived it will be on the audio.

I suspect Earl was never going to finish this tournament regardless.

Hmmm, Earl's opponent - did he ever show? Anyone know? Or was he already "in" on the scoop?

Hey, I'm not defending Earl's behavior. He doesn't handle things well, too often. One tourney we were both playing in, Earl and Scott Lewis got into a physical altercation. A massive pileup ensued. I couldn't make a ball in the ocean afterwards.

But I think we can add up a LOT of crap that put him on tilt here.

- The table being changed (was it Alex or Frank?)
- Alex allegedly tilting the rack
- The TD allegedly not keeping an eye on Alex's racking, despite Earl's contentions.
- The TD instead turning on the heat to Earl.

Only after this, from what I know, did Earl go over the edge.

It seems fairly evident to me, there's more blame to go around than just Earl. Was it premeditated?

Earl was a dick, Alex was a dick and Frank was a dick. JMO

the public busts his balls?
what about what he does to them?
always talking trash to them.
get real he brings it all on himself.
he should be kicked out of more tourneys.

+1

I watched the Earl against young gun Jesse Engel at the US Open. Earl couldn't help himself but turn around and get into a confrontation with the crowd. He needs some help. Jay had to talk to Earl and gave him a final warning that he would forfeit the match if he didn't be quiet. Earl didn't say another word and finished the match. Earl is a great player but acts very unprofessional in his matches.

There's a lot of controversy over Earl. But no one can deny he's one of the world's greatest pool players. I love to watch him play. Great shots, outstanding position play, and fast play. I'm a fan and wish him luck.

The only thing i know of this is in another match the commentator mentioned that the TD was a jerk and no one could question him about anything.
He also complimented him but it was kind of a sideways compliment.
Earl has a quick fuse and players and fans like to see him go off.
I for one rather see him beat his opponent down rather then going on tilt..
