Earl's version of what happened at SBE.

I just got off the phone with Earl and he told me to post what actually happened.

He was playing Alex and Alex was tilting the rack. Earl noticed this and made a comment to Alex. Alex was not happy that Earl had called him on this but corrected it. Next rack Alex tiled it again and so Earl said something and the conversation got a little heated "The Archer comes by the table and starts sharking me too, most of the players are cheaters and will do things just to get me pissed off and try to manipulate the rack".

The TD came over and told me that I was just going to sit down and be quiet and play pool and I asked "Why can't I defend myself? the guy is tiling the rack, surely I am aloud to say something to defend myself from guys doing that to me?" The TD gave me a warning and some people in the crowd cheered at that. They allowed him to do this to me and made it so I could not question Alex's rack. So the crowd supported hi decision to handicap me. Although I don't know if they knew what the reason was for me getting into it.

I lost that match and had another at 8.00, I arrived a little late but waited until 8.25 for my opponent. At that time I asked the TD "Where is my opponent?" the TD said "I have to call him" . "YOU HAVE TO CALL HIM??" Its 8.25? thats when the TD gave him the boot.

So thats Earl's side of it. Just passing on the message,.

How about giving Alex a call and getting his side of the story? ;) And while you have Alex on the phone, perhaps you can ask him why he was drunk in his 14.1 match with Dax a month ago?

Interesting. Wasn't there a thread from the DCC where a pro was late to his match and the TD was trying to call him?

I was watching as it happened, and the first post about Earl getting ejected was at 8:15 ET . . . but regardless of the time line, I have no doubt the TD already knew what he was going to do. Aren't officials supposed to be impartial?

I am wondering if Earl was that late if he would have called Earl to let him know?

Earls a joke

How about how hes in the hall way a fans ask for a picture with him and he tells them what am I some kind of clown. One of the greatest players ever but he needs to get away from the game.

A good example!

...This sounds about right. Everybody should take a good look at this post.
Earl, usually has an element of truth in what he's upset about! I can give a lot of instances where the public, has been busting his balls, about something that was on a level, the general pool playing public didn't have the pool smarts to, "get it!" This sounds like another such instance!

If you think Alex is beyond all that, get real! I truly enjoy Alex, his personality and his game, but he knows just where to put the needle in and believe me, he can be sooo--- subtle doing it! His drunken stand-up routine at DCC was hilarious, but that was disrespectful to the game of straight pool. Does anyone think you'll see Earl doing something like that in the finals of a championship? When Earl walked off the ESPN set many years ago against Corey,(for the record, I disagreed with that move, for the good of the sport) it was for similar reasons, too! Earl HATES cheating with the rack. Even if it's the tournament director who performs the error.

Earl is "the best ever" to have played the game of nine-ball, and make no mistake, that includes Lassiter! Earl's playing, changed the way position is played today, in rotational games, even before Efren's presence was felt.

He's has problems for sure, but that doesn't mean one takes advantage of him. IMHO, that just shows the pettiness of others towards him.

I think that's a real good post.

I'm sure fans there paid to see Earl play. I wasn't there so all I can say is as an observer of whats been said. But to me if that situation wasn't into some kind of yelling escalade I think it could have been handled a lot better. Regardless if some people like Earl's etiquette at times fans pay to see him and he does deserve some respect for his skills & accomplishments as well. The game is lucky to have a character like Earl around. But hey, as I said that's just my view.

I think the Ref / TD was out of line and unfair, the gentleman involved is known for his one sided behavior. It is easy to blame Earl for everything because of his past, but it doesn't mean he was wrong!!

I wish everyone could keep an open mind on this subject, we have all been in situations where the cards are stacked against us and people have used that to their advantage and none of us like the way that feels.

I wish Earl the best, no matter how my comments are received by the forum, and hope that more people would lighten up a little bit none of us are perfect and none us have the right to make comments that can not be proven.

This is a great post!dead on post,i vote it post of the year!

What's the name of the tourney director? Does he and Earl have "history"?

Another observation... Earl and Alex were to be on the TV table. They didn't. I read in the chat during the "replacement" match, Rodney vs Robles, that the reason Earl and Alex didn't play was because of the TD. That the TD said it wouldn't be fair to Alex, because Earl had played on the TV table.

IF, and I reiterate IF, that's the case, and given the other allegations, then I'm suspicious that this TD wasn't impartial.
