Earl tossed out of SBE...

So if I understand you correctly...oh...never mind...LOL

You know what? You are completely right and I am completely wrong.
Fans "like me" and people like me "know-nothings" are the reason Earl is where he is today.

Thanks for setting me straight.

English,

There is no arguing with a know-it-all. Players like Earl and John Mc should be allowed to do whatever they want because of who they are (were). Rules are for fools! Pretty sad state of affairs eh? Wonder when Zbot.. played Earl last? If so, did he bow down in reverence? Did he wear ear plugs? I didn't and I did. Foolish me for inquiring.

I couldn't stop laughing after watching this.... and I'm a huge tennis fan. Dude, everyone in the stadium (and I mean EVERYONE) is rooting for McEnroe when he's battling the ref. No matter what, right or wrong, they hope McEnroe wins the argument (which, of course, he never does. It's like rooting for Wile E. Coyote against the Road Runner).

I LOVE rooting for the Coyote. I always hope the Coyote will get that Road Runner and eat his frickin' neck like a spare rib. But, that's how I role.

EARRRRRRL!
Sorry, not everyone.

Earl's an angel compared to Mc....

Earl's an angel compared to the Mac - no doubt. Also, he's an angel compared to Michael Vick, Tiger Woods, Ben Roethlisberger, Ray Lewis, numerous rappers, Elliott Spitzer (Jesus, how's THAT guy have a job on CNN????), A-Roid, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I'm just saying before everyone gets in line to hang the man over a minor meltdown that caused no harm in general.... look at the other guys we all cheer for every weekend and watch on tv, etc. I mean, if you hate Earl--- it's like you HAVE to hate Tiger, Big Ben, A-Roid, etc. Otherwise, it's a huge double-standard.

If you remove all the athletes with "baggage"--- you'll soon find you have no good athletes at all.... outside of maybe Roger Federer.

A little razz-ma-tazz

Come on let this thread DIE allready!!!

You realize that when you posted that, you bumped this thread higher up.

That plus the fact that card carrying Earl fans could no more let this thread die off than we could walk past a $10.00 bill laying on the ground at WalMart & not pick it up.

Earl is good for AZB....his name is mentioned more on this site than any other pro player, living or dead. He helps keep the server here warmed up! :D

PS-Go Earllllllllllllllllllllllllll!

Actually Roger federer used to behave pretty bad on the court when he was a youth player. Giving up that misconduct made him to what he is today; one of the best alltime tennisplayers. And I don't think he's boring to watch...

I'm not sure that Federer's acting out on the court when he was young made him what he is today. Perhaps it was indicative of the fire and drive within him but the act of throwing a racket every now and then is unlikely to have been the cause of his greatness. Plus, who's to say he wouldn't have been even greater had he learned to control his emotions sooner. And as you say, he was a child when he did this.

That's what I mean, throwing rackets and complaining didn't get him annywhere. You loose your concentration and finally you loose the game...

I'd rather watch McEnroe racket-smash a Gatoraide into the stands after a bad call, but that's just me.

Diff'rent strokes, diff'rent folks.

I would rather see a great player shoot pool than a director enforce a rule unless Earl was jumping up and down on top of the table or something.

I'm glad I didn't spend money to go all they way to the tournament and see that.

Everyone likes to see great players shoot but when the player is argumentative & disrupts the tournament then he needs to be removed. Earl has a history of being like that, I see him EVERY year at the US Open 9 ball (although I will say in the 14 years we've been going he's always been nothing but nice to me & my daughter). I've witnessed him losing his temper more times than I can count. In my opinion too many people let him get away with it just because he's a great player & I don't agree with that at all. EVERY player should be respectful of not only their opponent but the other players playing their matches & the fans; people pay money to see them play not to see them throw temper tantrums as entertaining as they might be for some.

The same could said for organizers but you don't see players forming a players association to formally complain and organize against them do you?

The sport is small enough as it is, sure respect is important but dealing with problems is equally important. The solution of withdrawing Earl from the tournament has consequences, like disappointing all the Earl fans.

Pool, not train wrecks

After reading this whole thread (I had nothing better to do) I would respectfully disagree with the posters who seem to believe that fans show up to watch Earl explode. I'm pretty sure they come to see pool being played at it's very best, not some train wreck.

Case in point, a few years back Earl was playing Mika in finals on the winners side in a tournament in Orlando. Mika was up 3-0 when he played a safety during the fourth game. A spectator lightly applauded the safety and Earl went off on the spectator. Things esclated to the point that Earl actually picked up his break cue and drew back, ready to swing on the guy. Problem for Earl, he had picked the wrong man to mess with. The spectator told Earl, "Go ahead and swing, and when you do I'm going to take that cue away from you and stick it up your a**." Earl backed away, unscrewed his cues, grabbed his case and headed for the exit. At this point the TD, Charlie Williams, was following Earl and said something like "Come back, these people paid money to watch you play, come back". The spectators heard what Charlie was saying and they began chanting "Let him go, Let him go". They made it clear that they wanted no part of Earl's antics.

Maybe if the players that acted out were fined like in other sports. They wouldn't act that way anymore, but if you let them get away with it they are going to continue misbehavingi

Maybe, but if you are going to punish a pool player at the same level relative to an NBA or NFL player, the fine would only be about a dollar and a half.

I think McEnroe was a great player, and I love him as a commentator. I didn't really care for the outbursts years ago, though. My point was I think it's a pretty good comparison to Earl. BTW, keep on channeling Charlie Sheen.

McEnroe boosted attendance on the tennis court and Earl boosts attendance at the pool tournaments. Not always for all the right reasons. Either man brings talent to the game and neither man could ever be ruled out to win. Some spectators show for the real show and some spectators show for the side show. Now performing center stage, you pickem.

Players in a pool tournament pay to play, unlike just about every other sport. Pool tournaments are more like poker tournaments in that sense. Why fine someone you've already taken money from? Just DQ them and brush them out the door.
