Who are the 'Old Schoolers' of AZ

I registered on AZ back in March of 2005. I lurked here since about '99. I used to post regularly on the BD forum till I was banned for pointing out that one of the other posters suffered from Aspergers syndrome (which he did, and which made his ramblings so bizarre that they amounted to almost alien scribblings). Before that, from '96 or '97 on, until the FL fiasco, I participated on both RSB and ASP under the user name Raveloman. It is my belief that this and every other pool / billiards forum owes a debt of gratitude to the old usenet RSB which is the grand-daddy of them all.

Jer,

You are more than old skool, you are O.G., my friend.

I think I remember the CCB Aspergers incident. Was the poster "Patrick the alien"?

I believe ASP was before RSB, but you would know, you were on 1-2 years before me.

Eric >remember the JimBo JamBo?

Yeah it was Patrick, and if I had it all to do again I'd do the same thing! ;)

ASP was around before RSB but everyone had shifted over to RSB, then Mountain Mike and Sincerely Sam decided to resurrect ASP because they had some sort of beef with Bob Jewett, Ron Shepard, and a few others. If my memory serves me well, this was the initial infamous Bozos vs. the Gang of Four war. :D

Of course I remember the Jimbo-Jambo! I thought it was a real good time and a great chance to meet the flesh and blood people behind the screen names. I wish there could be another similar event for us AZ'ers. BTW, I miss Jimbo and I wish he were still here. :)

I miss alot of the old schooler's that have passed away. Some of
their posts were things you would remember for life. (I for one still
wonder if people do wash their feet in the loo)

But I really do miss Eydie Romano postings, she always seemed
to have great insight and a great sense of humour, and I wish she would
post once in awhile.

How quickly people have forgotten the wonderful events Bob and Eydie produced. Guess they are retired to Florida? Miss both Eydie and the Windy City Open! Also forgot the Italian restaurant across the hotel parking lot with the phenomenal Italian Beef sandwiches. Thanks for rekindling happy memories!

Hi Jerry, how's it going?

There were a couple of sets of photos from the Jimbo Jambo. If you scroll through the thread everyone is ID'd and there are some other photos.

I was going to say Mountain Mike but someone beat me to it. How about Barenada, and another guy named Mark Otto or maybe just Otto. That is why I had to come up with Pool 101. I believe it was 98-99 on rsb. I didn't post much but read it daily, left for a while came back to see the FL wars and turned it off until I came here. I still read a lot more than I post, I was told you have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason, and should use them in that order.

I don't know if 7-plus years qualifies at old school....but I know I'm getting OLD!!!

Someone should start a poll, which class has the best group of posters. My vote is for the 2004 class :)

Note the lower right hand corner of JAM's screen shot:

"Earl Strickland has not made any friends yet"

Is anyone shocked by that? LOL

Otto went under the handle Ottopilot (he was / is a commerical airline pilot).

Barenada (David S. Siltz) still has a site up with a pretty good section on pool and some cool videos of him banking balls like a madman. : http://barenada.com/pool.shtml

Do you remember when Mountain Mike faked his own death in 2003?
Here's what he posted while masquerading as his nurse:

"Hello, my name is Earlene, and I was with Mike for the last few months.
He was a decent guy and he asked me, as his nurse, to write this message. He said to tell you that he has no regrets, and that he had died. I can't
reveal the details of his disease, because it's still tied up in the court
system with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. I can say that his was a rare
disease and consistent with what he did in while in service to the US Army.
I will testify soon and can't say anymore.

He had one more message to give to you. He said to tell you to "Blow
Me". I don't know what this means and he wouldn't elaborate on it at all. I
don't think that his comment was related to the typical use of the term. He
wouldn't say anymore about what it means. I suppose that you know more about it than me. That was all he told me about what he did while at the computer.

I think that he was a good man, and that he showed great courage at the
end. I've never seen anyone, more than him, that kept his self respect, and
humor all the way to the end. He passed in his own way and on his own terms.

I believe that he was a God fearing man, and that his last wishes were kept.
May he rest in peace. Earlene Williamson, CNA.

Whatever happened to Mario Blansjaar? He was a regular over at RSB - hell of a nice guy too.

I'm doing well although my health took a really bad turn in '06 and I was not supposed to still be around this long. I'm disabled now. I still get out twice a week to play some pool although due to swelling in my legs and fatigue, I can't play for hours on end like I used to. The docs just didn't count on my will to keep on going! Like the line from Scarface said, "every day above ground is a good day"! :)

Thanks for the links, they brought back some good memories!

Ahhhhh Barenada; wasn't he the guy who outed the APA formula...lol. David something, I think.

I remember Mountain Mike and Sincerely Sam from the old ASP/RSB days, as well. Then off to Billiard Digest forums and then here...

I probably started posting in the 1996/97 timeframe, or at least browsing. As you can see from my post count, I don't post much...lol.
