How Will the Poker Site Fiasco Affect Pool?

negative

The rising police state is always bad for eveyone...even pool players.

Uncle Sam just wants his cut. He'll figure out a way for things to go back to normal with his pockets being lined this time.

Wake up suckers!

The poker sites have been ROBBING the public since 2006 when they began initiating ROBOT players to fill out the games. The robot players were originally programmed to not win, but to lose, lets say $1 an hour. That way they couldnt be accused of cheating, but in reality they are increasing their cut by about 10% an hour.
For example: in a ring game of 10 players each putting up $110 with $10 of the hundred going to the house that should leave $1000 available for the players to win. That amounts to a 10% chop. Bad enough. A ring game usually takes around, or under an hour. If there is one robot in the game and it is programmed to only lose $1 an hour that means that his contribution to the total pot is only $1. So now the total pot to be chopped up is only $901 which amounts to a further chop of almost another 10% for a grand total of 20%. A 20% chop would stop an artillery shell. Now that is with one robot in the game. More can be added.
Plus, in the big tournaments with hundreds of players, the robots never win the tournaments but they do come in 4th, 6th, 12th, etc., and drain off money a real person could have won.

It was possible to win before the robots were introduced. But now it amounts to highway robbery and they have been doing it for years. How are all those guys that were killing the games in the early days been doing lately? Many are probably too embarrassed to admit that things have gone sour.

The sites do even more evil than what I have just shown, but I hope I have shown enough to make the point.

I got woke up by a guy, a top poker player, who tried to put a site together that didnt make it and went under. He was just bad luck. Everybody else made billions.

Yet, the govt. takevoer didn't have anything to do with fraudulent playing, did it?

So, why did the state (fraudulently) take over the gaming industries, if not to protect the tax slaves from fraud? Could it be....dare I say.....could it be money and power?

I wonder why so many of you vote to enslave yourselves?

If they actually shut down the poker sites and all online gambling it would be a HUGE boost for pool, casinos, and any other form of live gambling. Online poker caused alot of live gambling to suffer by giving people the ability to gamble from the comfort of their own home, pool included.

But I would bet dollars to donuts that online poker is here to stay, the USA can do all they want but barring an outright blocking of the poker sites via controlling the ISP's like China and some Islamic countries do it aint gonna happen. People with the will are gonna find a way to play and the USA can only go so far before people question the personal rights and freedoms the country was founded upon.

But rest assured, online gambling hurts live gambling outlets hugely.

Pool takes another hit!

Do you think there will be positive, negative, or no impact on the pool scene?

Yes, the poker thing will impact pool. Just hope it doesn't do what skydiving did to pool! Flying through the air like a bird. Like jumping off a building. You can't get that kind of rush rolling balls around on a pool table! And don't forget what wind surfing did to pool just a few years ago. Several of my buddies quit pool and started wind surfing. Never seen them again. Pool is doomed!

I think all internet poker players who like getting a tan from their computer screens can still their tan on azbilliards or watching Efren on youtube.

Little, if any, impact imo. It may benefit some of the smaller online poker sites that have not been restricted as yet. More players for them. A poker player will find a place to play, whether it's online or in a real casino.

The question was about how it affects pool. :D

negligible impact

Im almost cer\rtain the fish are not going to a pool hall to gamble (besides me and my $.02)

Some shortstops that found poker might frequent the pool halls more again, especially if theres a live game there. until the mess is sorted out. But its alot easier to be a shark in poker than in pool obv. So that cash will not be flowing.

only thing good for pool in America would be a movie adaption of Jay's book. that would be the nuts even with george lucas(michael mann would be better).

That's incredible, and if true, incredibly disgusting.
If this really is the case I've done a complete 180 on how I feel about the government shutting these sites down.
I can only HOPE that this is part of the reason they've closed in on these guys.

It's none of the reason and also a conspiracy theory and very likely bs, especially for the big sites. There are however robots, but they are designed and operated by individuals and are against the T&C of any site. When they are found the accounts are closed and the money is forfeited.

I heard 80% of online players have never made a withdrawal from their account. So maybe there will be some extra money around for pool.

Competition, in the long run, is a GOOD thing and makes every business better...or it ceases to exist.

Who's better?: the guy who practices alone in his basement or the guy who goes to the hall and gets his ass beat by the better players over and over?

Having a state forbid other businesses from doing their business is a form of fascism, if anyone cares.

sure as the majority of people who were actually successful playing for a living(meaning making at least what an avg US household makes annually) is a very small % compared to the recreational players, breakeven players, small losers etc.
