DIY Pool sticks :)

Amazing Stuff! I want to see this guys articles on how to use a CNC machine! then I can start my own line of cues...:D

Who new it was so easy to make a pool cue! http://www.ehow.com/how_6814002_make-pool-sticks-out-wood.html

Everybody should be playing with their own homemade pool cue. :D.

Funny stuff. At least the instructions on that page say to use a lathe.

I followed a link http://www.ehow.com/how_4867916_make-pool-cue-shaft.html on that page that doesn't require a lathe, just strap the board to a bench and start sanding. That allows for:
Sand the smallest point of the pool cue's shaft straight, not rounded.

Tips & Warnings

Use woods such as rosewood, maple, oak or bamboo, as they are easy woods to carve and work with.

When you go shooting with your very own homemade cue and somebody asks what kind of cue you're shooting with just tell them "it's custom made."

Cut a small piece of cork to fit in the pool cue tip and extend out 1/4 of an inch. Secure the cork in place with wood glue and allow to dry completely.

Pure genius I tells ya.

Tools to make a pool cue.
Lathe, drill, sandpaper.

Why oh why didn't I read this before I dumped 12K on useless gadgets?

Try to create a rounded appearance with the sander

No way, really? I always wanted to try a square shaft.
A rounded appearance. Hahaha.

From the tips and warnings post:
Always be cautious when working with machinery and sharp materials.

I'm hoping that my sharp materials are sharper than the person that wrote this article. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to cut a
piece of cheese.

The bumper is what keeps the pool cue balanced as well as keeping unsuspecting bystanders reasonably safe from accidental jabs from your cue.

Priceless. I gotta email the guy who wrote this. Personally, I run bumperless with a piece of sharpened stainless steel protruding from the butt for this specific purpose.

I also have to send a Greenie to the person who made this thread to.
This made my day complete. You have no idea.
Anybody want to buy my cue making DVDs cheap as I have no need for them any longer.

I'd feel terrible if I met a guy with a one piece yellow-pine cue with a cork tip and a twine wrap... and he shot better than me.

That may have been the single greatest article I've read in a long time.

I'm gonna make one............

Why do people write instructions about s,,T they no nothing about??

I did technical training for 25 years and one thing I learned..... NEVER TELL ANYONE A HOW TO PERFORM A TECHNICAL PROCEDURE UNLESS YOU HAVE ACTUALLY DONE IT YOURSELF.

It never works like you suppose it will. There is always a catch. (like a cork tip and a twine wrap)

if u really want to do it up, wait for a bolt of lightning to strike a tree on your farm and make the cue from this wood. you could even etch a lightning bolt into the cue

Now we need him to give instructions on how to make a case, pool table, and balls, and chalk considering the price of some chalk today.

.

I just put a board on my lathe and am getting started...gotta pick up some more 400 and 600 sandpaper and some cork, though.

Anybody know how I can make a set of balls to go with it?

Damn! That's the reason my broomstick cue creates so much squirt: I forgot entirely about the cork.

Heavier plastic for advanced players, light plastic for beginners.

Good news! I just made a couple of them. I saved some time by starting with a broom. I just cut the strawbrush part off and made the two cues in two days.

One will be my player and the other will go on e-bay soon. Look for it and bid it up.
